SSK 2.5" Hard Drive Enclosure SATA to USB-C 3.2 Gen2 HDD/SSD Case 6Gbps

This drive enclosure is exactly what it says it is, which is great! It is inexpensive, light weight, small, and an aluminum shell, with a reasonably performant chipset and USB-C interface. It is USB bus powered and comes with a USB A to USB C cable, so everything is open to use it easily. No issues have shown themselves after several hundred gigs of transfers. Installation is quick and painless with the included tiny screw driver and screws, and it doesn't feel like things are going anywhere. The fit was great with an old half tb WD SSD, but probably wouldn't suggest a spinning HD with it as there isn't great dampening nor thermal transfer since you have to slide it against the aluminum rather than place the aluminum over the top of it and there is no airflow possibility. Perfect for SSDs though.

Works great, my ssd fit perfectly, and I really like the all aluminum shell. The issue other reviewers mentioned about the cable not seating all the way in may have been fixed since mine appears to be flush, or at least does not stick out far at all. Speed seems to be appropriate for my basic ssd.

Why did you pick this product vs others?: I picked this due to the sleek and solid frame. This is being exposed to the user, and ads a little class to the ordinary plastic everything else is made out of. The external is SATA3, true to USB 3 transfers from the disk. The plastic tray leaves a little to be desired, however, if you ham fist computer parts, you probably should go work on a dozer. It will get warm. Not hot. I have measure 92-95F. Super inexpensive for an enclosure that looks good sitting, transferring data, like it should. I would not use this as a travel buddy. I have other, more robust/insulated devices for that.

This is a perfectly reasonable cheap-o hard drive enclosure. It looks and feels cheap, with the aluminum finished in metal-tone paint and flimsy plastic end caps. There is no vibration mitigation whatsoever, not so much as little rubber stickers on the base. There's also really no ventilation of any kind, so whatever heat sink effect the aluminum provides is going to be all the thermal mitigation you get here. I could not see any branding on the controller chips, but it mounts just fine on my Mac. It comes with a bunch of garbage. You get a garbage screwdriver, some kind of sticker, two plastic bags, a plastic molded internal piece to hold it in an oversized box, and a small rubber thing protruding through the box (a hang tab for retail shelves, I guess?). All this is jammed into the cardboard box, which is the only thing you actually needed besides the screws and the enclosure itself. All in all, not a stunning showing here by any means, but it works, it's small, it comes with a cable, and it costs barely twice what what you'd pay for the cable alone. If you are looking to repurpose an old hard drive, maybe to back stuff up and set it on a shelf, this is a fine choice, and a good value. If it is going to see heavy use, it would be worth investing in something with some vibration and thermal mitigation.

I just received this today and so far it is working great, I haven't actually ran a speed test with it to find out how well it's working but I'm pretty sure it's as fast as the SATA III drive will go with what little I have tested it so far. I bought two other types of these external enclosures that use USB type A connections at the external enclosure but I could never get them to work with Mac that have type C/Lightning connections (Mac book Pro M4 and Mac mini M4), I tried several types of cables from Lightning on down the list, the others enclosures with the type A worked fine with PC's but not Mac for some reason. I know in this day and age of external NVME drives (which I also have and so far have worked fine with Mac) that are much faster it would make sense to just use them instead but if you already own a 2.5" SSD that you are no longer using internally on a PC these work great for storage as long as you don't need or mind not having the NVME speed.

The aluminum enclosure is compact and easy to assemble. I used it to repurpose a spare Samsung EVO 850 SATA III 250 GB SSD into an external storage drive for my laptop. Will be useful on trips for extra storage. Much faster than my USB thumb drives. Plug and play without any issues so far. One reviewer complained about not getting two cables. The very detailed product description states one USB-C to USB-A cable is included. (Running Windows 11 on desktop/laptop). Purchased in June 2025. Update (9/13/25): Unable to boot my computer this afternoon and urgently needed some information stored in my desktop computer's. Removed the SSD from the computer (Samsung EVO 870 4TB) and placed it in the enclosure. Plugged it in my laptop and was able to retrieve the information needed. Yes, I have multiple backups. Unfortunately, one of them is in my bank's safety deposit box (it's Saturday and the bank is closed) and the other is on a 5TB HDD which has to be inserted in a built-in enclosure on the desktop. Since I have no way to connect it to the laptop, it's useless. Ordering another enclosure today for another spare SSD. Also ordering a USB dock which can handle both SSDs and HDDs.

So far it does what I want...read DVD and BluRay discs. I was able to also write a DVD., and it appeared to be able to write a BluRay but I did not have a double-side BR disc to write to. I was skeptical regarding the price but happy so far. Previously I had purchased an expensive BR/DVD external drive that cost over 3-times this one. That one had repeated read errors on my discs whether DVD or BluRay. I returned that one and bought this one. My only small issue is at times when you close the disc drawer it pops open and requires another try. When operating I consider the its noise level to be normal for these devices compared to those I have had..

The SSK brand "Aluminum 2.5" Hard Drive Enclosure USB C 3.1/3.2 Gen2 6Gbps External HDD Caddy Adapter Reader with UASP for 2.5inch 7/9.5mm SATA HDD/SSD Compatible with WD Seagate PS4/5 Xbox" seemed like a bargain at $15, but not so. It worked fine when I installed a working SSD, tested it on a Windows system, but then moved to a Raspberry Pi system. Then it failed. I went back to the Windows system, it also failed. I changed the SSD, it also failed. In conclusion, this product failed after one attempted use. So disappointing.

I bought this enclosure to repurpose a spare 2.5-inch SATA SSD, and it's worked perfectly. Rather than leaving the drive sitting in a drawer, it's now a fast external drive that I regularly use with my MacBook Pro for transferring files and backups. Installation couldn't have been much simpler. Considering how inexpensive it is, this is a fantastic way to breathe new life into an old SSD. If you have a spare SATA drive lying around, this enclosure turns it into a fast, portable external drive in just a few minutes. Highly recommended.

Très satisfait de ce boîtier SSK. Le boîtier est en aluminium, ce qui lui donne une bonne sensation de qualité et aide à dissiper la chaleur. Il est reconnu instantanément par mon MAC. Je l'ai également testé sur un autre appareil et tout a fonctionné parfaitement. Le format est compact, léger et facile à transporter. Le câble fourni est de bonne qualité.
