Platinum Pro Use 171 Mechanical Pencil Matt Black 0.5 mm, MSDA-2500B

I didn't think a mechanical pencil could steal my heart away from the Rotring 600, of which I've had several throughout the decades, but this one did. The two pencils weigh about the same but the the weight of the Pro Use 171 is concentrated towards the tip of the pencil, and the end result is the pencil feels like it wants to pivot right around the area where my fingers grip it. That was the thing that really sold the pencil for me. I never really noticed the weight of the back end of the Rotring swinging around until I used this pencil and I noticed the absence of it. However because it still has a decent amount of weight, it feels like just the weight of the pencil alone is providing the correct pressure on the lead for writing. The other features are a bonus I think. Maybe I'm lucky but I've never been one of those people who have dropped a Rotring 600 and bent the metal guide tip. However the ability to retract it on this pencil is appreciated. Likewise I don't have a death grip on my pencil and I don't typically break the lead but I do know people who do and I think for them the ability to have the pencil "cushion" the lead might be something they need. I keep that turned on but I really never push hard enough for me to see any movement in the lead either way. Anyway, this pencil is awesome. It's my new favorite.

The look of this first off is exactly what I'd pictured, sleek black and thin. The ability to control the lead amount by hand allows me greater control both for writing and shading if drawing. Many uses for this little dude! So far so good! Came with lead preloaded as well. The only complaint is after a while it truly hurts your hand/fingers from how solid the edges are.

The Platinum Pro is a well constructed and perfectly balanced mechanical drafting pencil. It is clearly a durable pen by its construction and materials. The balance and feel make the Pro a joy to use. Perfect for technical drawing or drafting.

Good quality writing instrument.

It’s a nice pencil but the eraser does not sit flush which give an annoying feeling and the grip is too high so it’s uncomfortable to write with.

前は品薄気味でしたが、今は何処でも見るようになりました。 見た目はオールブラックで格好良く、書き味はソリッドで程よく重く良いです。 241・231が後継としてありますが、231は微妙、241は171より重く、重心が悪く書き心地も普通です。結果171が今一番良いMPとなっています。 不満点は口金を回してガイドパイプを格納する際に、キュッキュと擦れる音がして非常に不快な所です。ノックキャップがカタカタする点ですが、テープを適切に貼れば問題ないです。 また、ノックキャップの硬度表示窓が個体差で回り過ぎる現象があります。（最近のロットは少ないハズ、、、） 今なお使っている良いペンです。

Ce porte-mine semble difficile à trouver en Europe, alors qu'il offre 2 fonctionnalités originales 1- la mine est, au choix, suspendue sur ressort (pour limiter le risque de casse) ou bien rigide. (pour la précision du trait). On passe d'un mode à l'autre en tournant la bague de préhension 2- le tube de guidage de la mine est réglable en continu, entre complètement rentré et sorti de quelques millimètres. Sur un porte-mine classique, il n'y a que 2 positions: tube et mine rentrés, ou bien tube complètement sorti pour écrire. Sur ce Platinum, on peut par exemple écrire du texte mine sortie et tube rentré (protection maximale en cas de chute), ou bien sortir le tube, jusqu'à 5mm) par exemple pour se guider contre une règle. La longueur s'ajuste en tournant la pointe du stylo. Un inconvénient: pour tout protéger, il faut rentrer la mine avec le bouton arrière ET visser à fond la pointe du stylo pour rentrer le tube. Sur un porte-mine classique, la seule pression fait tout rentrer en une fraction de seconde. L'apparence est qualitative, assez comparable à celle d'un Rotring, mais beaucoup moins cher.
