The Bhagavad Gita (or “Song of God”) is one of the richest, most complete, and most important spiritual works ever composed. Its teachings have been a timeless source of inspiration, wisdom, and guidance for over a thousand years. The Gita (as it is affectionately known) is laid out as the story of a regular person, Arjuna, who has become despondent after coming to see life as a meaningless, pointless, and never-ending struggle. Arjuna is ready to quit. Sound familiar? Krishna (a mysterious friend and hero of the story) comes to Arjuna in his time of need and counsels him on the meaning of life as well as the path that leads to purpose and deliverance. What does Arjuna find at the end of his journey? Meaning. Tranquility. Enlightenment. Because the struggles Arjuna faced and suffered from are the same as those we face today, the teachings of the Gita are every bit as pertinent in our era as they were over a thousand years ago when it was first recorded. I designed my version of this enduring classic to be concise, modern, and accessible to all readers, even those with no prior knowledge of Hindu philosophy. “We behold what we are, and we are what we behold.” -The Bhagavad Gita Scroll up and discover the majesty of the Gita for yourself! It is easy to understand. I think now I might be able to move onto something a little more detailed now that I have a good base knowledge. A Treasure
This book is a treasure. For clarifying the message of the Gita it is, in my experience unmatched. And I have read many translations and explanations over the 45+ years that I have been interested in yoga and its philosophy. I would suggest to the author that he consider writing a book on the topic of Ralph Waldo Emerson's essays, since Emerson's views match closely to those of the author of the Gita, and this connection is very difficult to discover. Why? Because Emerson's archaic English is just about as confusing as Sanskrit!

This translation not for me but probably perfect for anyone else.
I just don't like this translation. It is probably perfect for someone else trying to understand the Gita. I appreciate the author's work, and all his other translations/interpretations, but I think, bottom line, I just cannot stay with the idea that I am divine, I am "God", I am one with the mountains, etc. It's my own shortcoming, just don't accept it all. My problem!

A Clearer Understanding...
I have read a number of versions of the Bhagavad Gita. My favorite is Jack Hawley's. But this version by Matthew Barnes really spoke to me in a way that I could more clearly understand. I look forward to reading other works by this author.

What's most important to know is LOVE covers a multitude of sin.
I appreciate this work, I read this book twice. It seems like the more I read it more understanding and wisdom i receive. My ultimate take away is LOVE!!! I am learning to drop my anger and forgive everyone even myself. Awesome 👌

Fantastic read
I have tried to read the Bhagavad Gita a couple times and found it really hard to retain what I had read. The language barrier was too much. But this book is great! It’s still written as a conversation but uses modern language and examples to help the ideas set it. Will read again.

A Must Read Book
I read the Bhagavad Gita in my youth and then a couple of times in the past 50 years. This summary if easy enough to read and gives crystal clear interpretations. I am reading together with the original, but even as stand-alone, its excellent.

Transformative
An absolutely brilliant "dummie's guide" to The Gita that is an impactful quick read. Unfortunately, the many grammatical and spelling errors can sometimes pull you out of the story, but still deserving of five stars nonetheless. Thank you for this 101 of the Gita.

Plain, simple and totally profound
Pretty amazing book. I did not have a clue about the Bhagavad Gita and then I read this. Now I have at least an idea of the scale of what there is to learn. This was a wonderful and profound introduction to a new way of thinking that seems like the oldest most common sense there is. Thank you Dr Barnes, I really enjoyed this and hope to read some more of your Introductory works in the future. For now I have some proper study to do on the Bhagavad Gita, oriented by this helpful guide.

Simple yet deep
I really enjoyed reading this book. Would have never attempted the original, maybe in a few years- but this is wonderful entry point in what I consider one of the most influential and profound works for human enlightenment. After reading it, I decided to deep deeper and will now go for next level, more academic and poetic- Mathew’s words in this final pages- interpretation by Stephen Mitchell. This book is definitely the foundation that’s needed to gain motivation and insight to dig deeper. Every book I got from Barnes’ collection I enjoy tremendously. Such a helpful resource.
