I bought this and another brand (one of the many blue ones on Amazon) before I had a tonsillectomy at age 39. The surgery and 2-week recovery was the worst time in my life. I would wake up in the middle of the night feeling like someone set razor blades on fire and sliced my throat and tongue. Icepacks really helped, and this one in particular was my favorite. I read a bunch of negative reviews about this black one but honestly, it was so worth the cost and perfect for my recovery, even if I never use it again. So it comes in a plastic sealable bag you use to chill it in the freezer so it doesn't get dirty I suppose. I always used the bag when chilling it in the freezer. It takes maybe 30-60 minutes to get cold in the freezer. When you take it out, it will stay cold for only 15-30 minutes, probably depending on the temperature of the air and your skin. But you are really not supposed to ice your body more than 15-30 minutes at a time anyway so I was fine with that. It chills fairly quickly so you can use it multiple times per day. I switched off using this and one or two other icepacks. The thing I really liked most about this product was the fact that it was made out of gel, so it contours to your face, and it is super soft. It has no edges or hems or seams, unlike the blue one I bought which I didn't like at all. This black one covers all your relevant face parts for oral surgery and doesn't push anywhere. The cold gel goes right to the edges of the pack, and the entire thing is gel except the part on the top of your head. The softness is so important when everything is swollen and painful to the touch. This icepack provides instant relief from oral pain. It fit me (a woman with an average head) perfectly snugly, but has some give/stretch for different size heads. It may be too big for a child though. I saw one bad review that was unhappy it was stitched together as one piece instead of having ties or velcro to close it. Personally I liked that it was stitched together; I felt that helped it fit more snugly (versus the blue one that used velcro and I constantly had to re-adjust). Honestly, I cannot rave enough about this product and I highly recommend it to anyone who is going through wisdom teeth or tonsil removal or other oral surgery. It literally helped me survive.

This ice pack is so helpful when you have wisdom teeth extracted. My daughter found it comfortable and very effective in keeping the swelling minimal. It made 5 days post surgery so much easier. It stays in place. It's soft on your face. It's comfortable to wear.

This ice pack wrap has been really helpful for TMJ pain. It stays in place comfortably and gives even, consistent cooling without having to hold anything against my face. The material is soft, and the design makes it easy to wear while moving around. Not a miracle fix, but definitely a great relief option.

Definitely worth every penny! Especially with full teeth removal/dental implants!! Pros were it didn't take long to cool (10 mins in freezer) and it has a squishy/soft texture. Cons were its a "one size fits most" and there is no way to adjust it for your head size. Fabric is stretchy, but for smaller heads it slips off easily. Despite the lack of size adjustment it aided in managing my facial swelling and discomfort.

It’s nice that you don’t have to insert gel packs into this and that you just pop it into the freezer (or even fridge if you want it cool rather than cold), but it’s way too big for my head. It will fall right off if I don’t take way too long messing with it. I’m keeping it, but I’m going to have to sew Velcro to it or take in the thin material by at least 2” at the top so it’ll fit. I’m an adult woman but i wear smallish hats. This is for someone with a very large head. That said, it has helped a lot with my painful jaw, which i couldn’t close bc of flared TMJ issues.

Icy, but soft and lasts about 20 minutes. Helped ear pain when recovering from tonsillectomy.

My daughter used this after having wisdom teeth removed. It was her favorite ice pack to use. She found the material very soft and the cooling compression very comforting. Our only issue was needing more of them. Since it has to go back in the freezer for 2 hours between uses, we needed more of them to keep the 20 minutes on- twenty minutes off schedule the doctor recommended post-surgery. Also, it only stays cold enough for the 20-minutes cycling, not much more. Overall, we really liked it.

This was very helpful for my daughter when she her tonsils removed. We use it often even for other parts of our bodies that need a hot/cool pack but its better cool. The fabric is soft and pliable and lasts for quite awhile

I know my family has always been blessed with a larger head (lol) but for the first time i needed one of these for my sons wisdom teeth removal. He did not like this one as it was a little tight for him and after a procedure he was a bit apprehensive to use something restricting. Luckily i had purchased another one just in case that could velco. With that being said, this one would be great for someone with a smaller - average sized head as it would nicely hold the icepacks close to your jaw, I tried it on and it was a bit tight for me. knowing this just be aware of the size!
