Aeotec Smart Home Hub, Works as a SmartThings Hub, Z-Wave, Zigbee, Matter Gateway, Compatible with Alexa, Google Assistant, WiFi

Works well - glad I read the previous reviews and did some searches on pairing devices. Set up was easy, I paired 2 door locks and 8 in wall light switches and 1 plug in module. all but 1 paired super easily using the app and the QR code on the device. The one light switch I had difficulty with actually paired, but didn't pop up on the app. which I found later. I set up rules to turn on lights, etc. those all work fine, they just were not super intuitive, but it might just be my being used to my old system. The app (Smart Things) works well and has a good user interface. If you are moving from another controller or provider like Alarm.com, Comcast or Cox you will need to remove and clear the devices from the old system first. If you don't you can usually factory default the device before trying to pair.

I purchased this to replace my old Vera 3 that died and was having issues before it finally died. I have quite a few of the GE ZWave switches. Setup of the hub was easy for the most part. After setup I tried to add one switch and it wouldn't even see it was trying to pair. Tried a second and third with the same results. Figured I had better try and reset them but every method of resetting them just didn't work. Still could not add them to the controller. I was about to give up and send it back until I found a video that shows how you can exclude a device using the app even if was on a previous controller / network. Went through each device one at a time and excluded and then included it on the hub. Worked like a champ. Got everything added back on the new hub. It is working great and I'm happy about my purchase. The only complaint I have is about the app. Sometimes I would add a device and if I selected to view by brand it would not refresh the screen and the cursor would just spin and spin. Shutting down the app and starting it back seemed to fix this. It happened about 5 or 6 times as I was adding devices. I don't think you will be disappointed with your purchase.

I'm a certifiable smart home nerd (everything in my house is controllable from app or voice - all wall light switches (I use GE Enbrighten Z Wave switches), smart plugs, garage doors, thermostat, exterior door locks, blinds, appliances, security system, etc.). I had a 2nd gen Samsung SmartThings hub and decided to upgrade to the latest-greatest Aeotec version. I would have given this straight 5 stars, but very, very unfortunately, they don't have a transfer utility to move devices from an earlier version of the hub to the new one. Since I use all Z-wave devices, each one of the over 70 devices in my home had to be reset before I could connect them to the new hub. 3 of the wall switches just wouldn't reset no matter what I did so I had to replace them even though they worked fine with the old hub. Anyway, after spending a (beyond annoying) weekend methodically resetting and adding each device, we're all good to go and everything works great. The Alexa skill for SmartThings works great and Alexa picks up new devices I add instantaneously; and since SmartThings handles all of the main wireless smart home standards, you can connect just about anything to it. Plus, the SmartThings app is easy and intuitive; and I love the automations you can create (such as locking all of my exterior doors at 10 PM every night, turn on my garage outside lights at midnight and off at 5 AM every day, etc.).

This is an excellent product which is very easy to set up using Samsung SmartThings app. I purchased the hub primarily for use with my LeakSmart sensors and valve. The company behind LeakSmart (not Aeotec) is out of business now. I was able to pair all the sensors and valve successfully, and configure 'Routines' easily; Those determine when the valve should close (Hint: When there is a water leak...). Some info for other LeakSmart users: In order to pair the valve, you have to remove the valve's backup batteries, disconnect the valve from AC power, then put the Aeotec Hub into pairing mode, and insert the batteries into the valve. The Hub found it immediately. I had a harder time pairing the sensors, but was able to pair all 4 after a few attempts. First, I put the Aeotec into pairing mode, then removed batteries from a sensor, inserted the batteries, and held the black button at the bottom of the sensor for about 2 seconds. Some of the sensors paired within 30 seconds, but with some I had to repeat the procedure several times. I am sure this is a LeakSmart thing and not Aeotec issue. I wish SmartThings offered Apple HomeKit integration, but for my particular application it wasn't an issue. Overall I recommend the hub.

Just got my hub and had it set up in SmartThings app in under 5 minutes. Super easy. I have a newer home that was preinstalled with multiple z wave devices all hooked up to alarm dot coms hub and software. Using the Aeotec hub in SmartThings, I was able to set it into Exclusion mode, unlink all my z wave devices from the current hub, and relink them to this new Aeotec hub. Every device excluded instantly without problem, and then included/linked to the new hub instantly without problem. All devices are now on the home screen of my SmartThings app and fully controllable just as they were on the alarm app, but now with the freedom of no subscriptions and no third party reigning over my smart home. This hub is a fantastic device that made setting up my smart home very easy, while simultaneously future proofing in case I integrate matter or other connected devices.

I had originally purchased this as a means of getting my feet wet on my journey to upgrade my newly purchased home into a smart home. After almost a solid week of research, this product seemed like the all-in-one package. It supported both Z-Wave, Zigbee, and Matter, meaning I wouldn't have to have separate hubs for each protocol. Aeotec was given the IP rights for SmartThings, so that was a big green flag to pull the trigger on this company as I figured that meant it was at least reputable and proceeded with my purchase. The intent was to set up this device with HomeAssistant. The product description *heavily* implies that this product works locally, only needing WAN access for setup stating - and I quote - "Requires internet access for set-up: Ethernet connection recommended, but Wi-Fi is also available." There is also a question asking if it is cloud dependent in the Q&A with Aeotec themselves stating - again, I quote - "This hub is currently cloud dependent, but will become local-dependent in the near future through firmware updates." back in 2021. I had assumed that given the current product decription saying it only needed internet for setup, in addition to SmartThings Edge drivers, meant I could finally have local control, but alas this is not the case. As soon as I pulled my WAN cord to simulate an outage, I could no longer control my devices via the SmartThings App even still connected to the same WIFI as the hub via Ethernet. It outright refused to work and the app said my hub was offline. Home automation still should - in theory - work, but since I only have smart switches and lights, setting up automations was outside the realm of possibilities with my current hardware. This also meant that I had no way of integrating SmartThings with HomeAssistant to control it locally either. So why does this matter if the device works as intended without an internet connection? Well for starters, I value my privacy and dont want my devices phoning home constantly. I also dont like giving companies the ability to brick my hardware at the drop of the hat. A company called Insteon shut down back in 2022. Their service relied entirely on the cloud infrastructure to function (just like SmartThings). Once the company shut down it then effectively turned every single one of their IoT products into a paperweight and completely worthless. On the other hand, we have companies like Amazon shutting down user's accounts and devices (Including his IoT security system) for false claims of racism by a delivery driver. With all of this happening in the IoT/Smarthome ecosystem, I refuse to give any company control of my devices and my hardware - and so should you. If you disagree with that sentiment and instead want only cloud-enabled devices for your smart home, then by all means treat this review as a 5-star review. The product worked fine - albeit not as advertised.

Little expensive but it seems to do the job well and merge outlets,, most smart devices

I bought this hub to talk to two Schlage Z-Wave locks that are in the house we just bought. After banging my head against the wall trying to get them to sync, I wrote to Aeotec support saying I may need to return the hub to Amazon. They replied within an hour, stating: Sorry you’re having issues. Unfortunately Schlage locks have been a bit notorious with connection, especially if they existed before you added your home hub or if they were connected to another smart home device previously. Factory reset does not REALLY reset the Schlage locks. We encourage you to attempt the following steps to see if you can get the lock paired. 1) In your SmartThings app find the Hub in your Devices and then select the icon to open the device page for the hub. 2) Open the three dot menu in the upper right corner of the hub device page 3) Choose z-wave utilities 4) Choose Z-wave exclusion (this puts the hub into exclude mode) 5) Follow the instructions on your Schlage lock to include/exclude from a Zwave network (typically this is the same process) 6) you should see a confirmation on the app the device has been excluded 7) factory reset your Schlage (just for good measure) 8) restart the hub 8) pair the lock to the hub following the normal pairing procedure After doing the above, everything worked perfectly. I didn't even have to factory reset the locks. I could even sync to the locks by just scanning for devices in the SmartThings app. After getting this to work so easily, I highly recommend. (I also recommend Aeotec include this instruction list in their documentation directly. 😉)

I had the 1st generation SmartThings hub and purchased this for new home. Works well and SmartThings app has come a long way in the past 3 years. In addition many of the Z-Wave devices have also improved greatly. I have used SmartThings to automate many things in my home (door locks, inside and outside lights, garage door). eg. Light inside the house by garage turns on for 10 minutes (then turns off) when the garage door opens. Light inside garage turns of when motion is detected and lights turn off automatically after 10 minutes (in case I forget). The possibilities are endless. Installing devices with the app can be frustrating and time consuming and is the hardest part. Once installed, scenes and automations are easy to create. Before purchasing an add-on device, make sure it is compatible with SmartThings and check reviews. Some work better than others.

Lo instalé en la sala y el control recibe las señales de dispositivos en mismo nivel de la casa, no he probado el alcance para un segudundo o tercer piso. Hasta ahora funciona según lo esperado. El único detalle que creo lo especifica en manual, que no funciona sin internet.

Very expensive but easy to install. i hooked up an old zigbee door lock from Roger's in minutes. Does support a vast amount of devices.
