Blocks included in the set measure .0625", .100", .125", .200", .250", .300", .500", 1", and 2". Grade AS-1 gage blocks are often used for calibrating and inspecting tools, instruments, and manufacturing gages. Gage blocks (also called gauge blocks, Jo blocks, slip gauges, and Johansson gauges) are precision ground metal or ceramic blocks, used for calibrating measuring equipment and standardizing the measurement of length in manufacturing. Gauge blocks are square or rectangular in shape, with flat surfaces, and have an engraved unique identification number and length (provided in either inches or millimeters). They often come in sets with blocks of varying lengths, so that many different standard lengths can be created by stacking and wringing them. Wringing is the process of sliding blocks together with a small amount of oil, in order to create a longer surface. I chose to use the calibration certificate and set a 2 year recalibration date. Other quality systems will require calibration prior to use and would not recognize the factory calibration. Having said that, the blocks will be EXTREMLY accurate if well maintained. Hope that helps. **Q: Is there a certificate stating the deviation on each block?** A: No there is not; If you buy this item from Mitutoyo you can ask for one, but you will pay a lot more. It never mattered to me because we were going to have it calibrated every year. If you are going to calibrate micrometers, calipers, bigger than 3 inches, this is not the set for you. **Q: Are these only used for micrometer calibration or can they be used for dial caliper calibration? Thank you.** A: Yes, you can calibrate both micrometers and calipers. **Q: Where are they made?** A: I don't care it is high quality from Mitutoyo. A great little set for a quality department that doesn't need a 80 piece set.
