This mat is extremely thick. I'm honestly not sure if I had poor quality needles or this thing was just too dense because my needles kept breaking.

This is a very nice product. I will always choose natural product over foam. However, when felting, my needles don’t go far into my project because they won’t go much into this mat. I felt this surface to be too dense. Also, I can’t really poke my needle into it for setting needle aside when I want to change needles. I think it might make breaking needles easier for a new felter. I thought I would prefer this but there’s a reason the you tube video ‘pros’ use the foam.

This works best for small delicate areas you are trying to felt.
