Review: This Lodge 4 Quart Dutch Oven is a great size many items...A very detailed review. - Well I cook for two hearty eaters...myself included. And before I begin this review on the Lodge 4 Quart Dutch Oven, I want to let you know that I currently own a Lodge 5 Quart Dutch Oven, 3 Quart Chicken Fryer, 12 inch Skillet, 10 inch Skillet, Round Griddle and 10 inch Chef Skillet...I cook with Cast Iron several times daily. I made a huge Beef and Vegetable Stew in this Dutch Oven and it served 4 people w generous helpings. I roasted this in my oven at 325 degrees for 2.5 hours and it was the best stew I ever made. - Reaon that I purchased this size Dutch Oven is Ithat I needed something in the 4 Quart size for small Roasts, Cut up Chicken, Stews and Soups etc. It is perfect for these types of Foods. - Four Quart vs Five Quart Info...Now you may be wondering if you should buy the larger 5 Quart or the small 4 Quart. So I first took a picture of them side by side (picture one). *** The 4 Quart is 9.5 inches across the top and 4.5 inches deep. On the bottom of the 4 quart, it is quite a bit NARROWER than the 5 quart. Only a very small whole chicken or 2 to 3 pound roast will comfortably fit into this 4 Quart. The 5 Quart is 10.25 inches across and about 4.75 deep. * The 5 Quart will fit a much larger roast. I have roasted a large whole chicken in it. See all of the pictures below. Diffetences in Ligic vs Pro Logic...This is the newer Lodge PRO LOGIC Cast Iron. The lid on this Pro LOGIC is very different inside from my older 5 Quart LOGIC Cast Iron. This lid does not have the small spices inside. Instead it has the smooth rings for self basting. It works well and is easier to clean over the old LOGIC style with the spikes inside. - Surfaces - Both the Logic and Pro Logic have somewhat rough surfaces. The old, old Lodge Cast Iron has very slick surfaces. I like the new slightly rough surface better because I find it is better for evenly browning meat. - Non Stick abilities...I have found that the first time or two, good sticks just a bit. However, I discovered that every time I cooked I the Lodge Cast Iron pots, the food slid right out and cleanup a breeze. - Iron benefits....It is all over the internet that cast iron cooking gives o e extra iron in food. What a great way to get more iron in the diet. - The taste of food when I cook with Lodge Cast Iron is magnificent. Such better than using regular pots and pans in my opinion. I highly recommend this 4 Quart Dutch Oven. If you cook for say four or more people, I suggest the 5 quart Dutch Oven or larger. --- Preseasoned by Lodge. However, I washed and dried it and rubbed it down with vegetable oil. Then when I cook, I use Olive Oil or Vegetable Oil. Then when I wash it and dry it, I lightly run it down with a light coat of veggie oil and store it. This way, my food never sticks and slides right out.
Review: Preseasoning Surprisingly Even, No Flaking - I could not like this 4 quart Dutch oven any more than I do. Have used it for a month and have had zero problems with it. Makes a wonderful artisan bread, and a delicious stew. I did do one round of a seasoning on the outside and inside of it before I used it, and have done others since. Zero sticking problem. Because I have a glass-topped stove I season the bottom of ALL my cast iron pieces as much as I season the inside of them so that the bottoms of the pans are as smooth as the insides to help prevent scratching. So far, so great! If I could, I would switch out all my cast iron for Lodge's Pro Logic line. I love the lines of this Dutch oven so much it sits out on my stove all the time! Could not be happier with this Dutch oven, would purchase again, and would recommend.

## Features

- YOUR NEW GO-TO DUTCH OVEN: The Lodge BOLD Premium Cast Iron Dutch Oven seamlessly combines both form and function, making it an essential tool suitable for beginners, home cooks, and chefs. Cast iron can handle any kitchen cooktop, oven, grill, and open flame. Crafted in America with iron and oil, its naturally seasoned cooking surface creates an easy-release and improves with use.
- SEASONED COOKWARE: Seasoning is simply oil baked into the iron, giving it a natural, easy-release finish and helps prevent your pan from rusting. Lodge pre-seasons all cast iron cookware with 100% natural vegetable oil: no synthetic coatings or chemicals. The more you use Lodge the better the seasoning will get!
- RUST? DON’T PANIC! IT’S NOT BROKEN: When your pan arrives you may notice a spot that looks like rust. It is simply oil that has not fully carbonized. With regular use and care the spot will disappear. If you do notice rust simply scour the affected area with steel wool, rinse, dry, and rub with vegetable oil.
- HEAT RETENTION: The cast iron vessel has superior heat distribution and retention, evenly heating throughout both the bottom and sidewalls. The tightly fitting lid seals in moisture for scrumptious pot roast, stews, or a large batch of beans. Our heat retention also reduces the amount of energy needed for cooking.
- FAMILY-OWNED. Lodge is more than just a business; it is a family. The Lodge family founded the company in 1896, and they still own it today. From environmental responsibility to community development, their heads and hearts are rooted in America. Products made with non-toxic, PFOA & PTFE free material.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: why does it have a limit of 500 degree F and the no pro-logic dos not list a temp. limit?**
A: At around 500 degrees, the pot may crack. Ask me how I know.
I was heating up my pro-logic after I washed it, planning to re-season it with a light spray of oil, and stupidly set my induction burner to “power” then walked away. I heard a melodious clank, cursed, then came back to see my pan cracked across the bottom. I am replacing it, because I love it so much, and the 4 quart is just the right size for deep-frying grebel, a Christmas dish my family loves.

**Q: What is the difference between the Lodge L10DOL3 Pre-Seasoned Dutch Oven and the Lodge Pro-Logic P12D3 Cast Iron Dutch Oven?**
A: This one has handles that slant up and the Lodge L10DOL3 handles are flat. (actually easier for seasoning it)This one has a lid with concentric rings, while the other one has drip points, not rings. (seems easier to season) That's why I got this one.As a note, I got this when it cost the same as the other model. I don't think it's worth paying extra.

**Q: Under the lid, does it have self basting drip points?**
A: Mine does not have the self basting drip points. It has a few concentric circles in descending size that probably serve a similar function.

**Q: Will the lid from this Dutch oven fit on the lodge 12 inch skillet?**
A: Depends on the skillet you have. It WILL NOT fit the Lodge Logic L10SK3 12' skillet, but it WILL fit the Lodge Pro-Logic P12S3 12' skillet, according to the customer service rep at Lodge...

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A classic because it works so well.

What's to say? A great pot! 4 quart size is smaller than many, but quite enough for my uses. Not so heavy as to be awkward, and fits well on my gas range. One of the most versatile designs I know of. A great pot/pan for frying! The taller sides keep most of the grease spatters in the pot and not on my stove! Comes pre seasoned and will get better with use. Brown some onions, fry your burger, put the buns inside on top and cover for a minute and everything is ready for a great hamburger! If I had to make do with one pot for all my cooking, this would be it. Note; After frying those onions I wouldn't use it for pineapple upside down cake for a while. I rate a lot of things with five stars because they do exactly what they're designed to do. I'd give this pot six if I could.
