The three jar rust kit is easy to use and you can easily create any color rust that you want. There’s fine sand mixed in each color. I put about a teaspoon of each on an old plastic lid and very lightly mixed, you want to see some lines of each color. When you apply it with a popsicle stick the colors will be slightly separated, allowing for variations of color, or you can blend it with a brush to the desired color and texture. This amount covered a 1/2 inch tee and two 1/2 x 3 inch pipes with a little left over. I was very satisfied with how well it worked.

I have this product AND the copper patina product. They are very similar but different colors. Works amazingly well. I “rusted” a scrap of wood and showed my partner, and he legit thought it was a rusty chunk of metal until I let him touch it. We used this to make a “pit boy” for his fallout costume. The brown base color is very gritty and thick. The orange color is medium thick and medium gritty. The yellow is thin and has little grit. The tiered grit creates the realistic metal decay look because the grit of the base color ‘catches’ the next color up as you spread it creating variegated colors with tons of textural realness. These are waxes and they dry surprisingly quickly like literally as you’re rubbing, especially the thickest brown base color. This means you have to work fast and not think too much about it. A downside is you get low coverage. I recommend spray painting a large piece in a brown that matches the base coat if you want to make this product go a little further so you don’t have to cover every square inch. I have a feeling I will run out of brown way before I run out of orange and yellow just because of the short working time. But I’m okay with that if that’s the price I pay for maximum authenticity. I would love if they offered one-off ‘refills ‘.

This stuff is awesome! I couldn’t believe how well it worked and how easy it was to apply. I used it to “weather” my metal Obi Wan lightsaber. It far exceeded my expectations! 100% of the people I’ve shown it to have thought it was professionally weathered and actually rusty. I was worried about the adherence and was afraid that it would easily flake or peel off, being on smooth metal. So far, it’s fantastic. No flaking or peeling at all. The texture really sells it, too. It really looks like it’s from a long time ago and a galaxy far, far away 😆.

I tried a different (reactive) rust paint on plastic guitar pickguards. The plastic warped and the reactant didn't produce much real rust. I applied this acrylic paint on top of a steel paint base. The results look authentic and the plastic (with proper prep) stayed flat. The brown base has plenty of texture which you can easily adjust with a brush. A bit of thin, dry-brushing over the steel also added some authentic darkening—as if that part of the metal was just beginning to oxidize. The orange step 2, with some creative blending, added another note of authentic rust. Be careful with the yellow. A little bit goes a long way. I'm pleased with these paints and you'll find excellent videos on their YouTube channel that will save you a great deal of experimenting.

I see these on videos all the time and the texture of mine is just so thick. It can’t be correct. I understand that all three colors have different densities, but these are just like cement getting ready to harden very disappointed.

I used the 3-pack of red/brown/mustard to create a rust finish on some metal butterflies purchased on Amazon. Turned out great and the product was easy to apply. I used a matte clear coat for durability, also purchased on Amazon.

Very pleased with the special effects I'm getting with this product. It takes a little practice to get the look I'm going for, but there are many tutorials available online. One word of caution, the paint needs to be pasty and chalky and therefore WILL dry out once you open and use it, even with the lid screwed on. Adding water makes it too mushy for texturing. I've learned to add just a few drops of acrylic retarder to the remainder, shake it and seal after using and have been able to preserve the remainder in that pasty chalky consistency for later projects

This was out of stock so long, I almost gave up on it, but so glad I didn’t. It is very thick textured and gritty and looks amazingly realistic. I use it on polymer clay, and really can’t believe the finished jewelry isn’t actually rusty metal. A bit of a learning curve, since the YouTube videos seem to show applying colors while still wet. I found that this gave a muddy gray look on the smaller pieces I make, so had to restrain my impatient self to wait for first coat of dark brown to dry before adding orange. I didn’t like the effect the yellow gave, so painted over it, but I probably need more practice blending. I applied the orange very sparingly using my finger just to hit the raised areas of the mold. Anzuwenden idealerweise mit einem Stupfschwamm, hält es auch eine Weile vor. Gerade die hellen Farbtöne sollte man nur für leichte Akzente nutzen.
