This knife stays sharp, is attractive, and comes with a protective sleeve to protect the blade.
I have quite a few of the high-end expensive knives such as Shun, Wustoff, etc, and have found that many of the high-end knives are more expensive because you are paying for a known brand. As I have learned more about kitchen knives, I have found that it is more important to pay attention to the materials the knives are made of, the content of the materials, the manufacturing processes used to produce the knife, and the angle of the blade. Since I am an avid cook, my knives and their quality is important to me. So, I am always on the lookout for new knives that meet my qualifications. I have learned from experience that shopping for quality knives means looking at the attributes of the knife rather than the brand name. So many of the lesser known brands have all of the qualities of the brand names, but cost a lot less. This is the case with this knife. This is a knife that meets all of my qualifications and then some.- It has the 10-15 degree blade angle maintained by Asian knives that is much sharper than the blade angle of European and American knives.- It is made of VG-10 steel that results in a harder sharper blade that holds the sharpness much longer than other steels and resists staining and rust.- Although true Damascus steel increases the hardness and sharpness of the blade, this knife has only a Damascus pattern etched on the blade. I have found this to be true on most of the knives I have bought that were described as having Damascus steel blades.- It is made of high carbon steel which maintains sharpness longer and resists rusting.- It is also important to consider the chromium, and cobalt content of the steel as these add to the hardness and structure of the metal which helps to increase time the blade will hold sharpness, resistance to breakage, resistance to rust, etc. I won't get into the details of these as more info can easily be found on the internet. This knife comes boxed in a very attractive box that make it perfect for a gift. Since I bought this knife for myself, I won't keep the box, but I do appreciate the supplied protective sleeve. If you keep your knives in a drawer as I do, it's important to protect the blades from damage. In the past for my more expensive knives, I have had to buy protective sleeves separately. So I do appreciate that a sleeve is supplied with this knife. The weight of the knife feels good in my hand, and the handle is comfortable. In addition to being made very well, I think the handle is very attractive.I have been using this knife almost daily for over a month, and I couldn't be happier with it. It is excellent for slicing even delicate foods such as tomatoes, and is a dream for chopping. As yet, I haven't had to sharpen it and it cuts as well as it did the day I got it. I have another similar knife, but this one is quickly becoming my favorite.I hope this review was helpful for you and I will update the review if my opinion changes.

Quality craftsmanship
It's a beautifully crafted knife with a blade sharp enough to give a hamster a vasectomy 🐹 My nephew collects wild knives that have no practical use. I bought him this for Xmas hoping to nudge his hobby into a more tasteful direction. He loved that it was handmade in Japan. Would recommend 😼👌

The blade has a good edge but is not deep enough
I like this knife, but will likely buy something better for the 6" utility knife purpose. Another reviewer commented that the blade is not deep enough, and I have to agree. I make dinner from scratch almost every day, so frequently use a range of kitchen knives.I purchased this to replace a 6" utility knife that won't keep a sharp edge for more than a week. This knife does that, but the blade must be deeper to be a fully functional utility knife. As the other reviewer stated, it's about as deep as a steak knife blade. Also, I'm not sold on the cylindrical handle. I have three knives with this handle design and it only works well for me on the 4" utility knife. To be fair, this could be partly a technique issue in the way I hold it, but here's a sweeping observation (and from my wide experience with Japanese products I consider it valid): Japanese industrial designers have many strengths but could learn a lot about ergonomics from northern Europe.

Has become our go-to knife in the drawer
Glamorous to look at, sensual to hold...and damn sharp. This knife is so pretty, you hate to get it dirty, but it is really good at that. It's heavy, yet well-balanced. It kind makes the other knives in the drawer, top-notch units, look "lessened". I bought a paring knife to match it. Both are wonderful and reasonably priced compared to others I considered.May have to buy another to give as a special gift to our closest friend.
