Marine 5 PC Navigation Software

Software is great. Did not work "out of the box" - had to download update from vendor - not a big issue as well documented on their website.

I have been using Fugawi since version 4 and upgraded to version 5. I have been having problems importing a Navionics chart set into Fugawi. It generated a 301 error message. The software has always seemed a but unsophisticated compared to Maptech's Chart Navigator but I was drawn in because it advertises its ability to read Navionics charts. I contacted Fugawi and they seemed uninterested in helping to resolve the error and instead suggested that I buy an upgrade to my Navionics charts, even though the Navionics charts loaded fine onto my laptop and they work fine on my Raymarine C80 chart plotter. Because I have paid for the Fugawi sofware, I'm reluctant to buy different software and as a matter of principle, I don't want to buy an update to the Navionics charts chip but if I would have known the lack of support available from Fugawi, I would have paid a little more for a different Marine navigation software package such as Ray Tec or Chart Navigator. My experience is that Fugawi overpromises and underdelivers.

I purchased version 4 because Fugawi was offering a free upgrade to ver.5. However I was told after purchase that Ver 5 will not work with charts older than 2010, which would have required me to replace all my charts. Also there were some crashing problems for me on the ver. 5., so I opted to stay with ver. 4.
