Very sturdy holds a lot of stuff for storage and I love how adjustable everything is. No matter where you need to place this item with as much adjusting you can do it should fit almost anywhere. The install process is very easy and the company definitely backs up their product. I had an issue and needed new screws (probably my fault) but instead of going to home depot and getting new screws I decided to contact the manufacture first. I sent the e-mail on a Sunday morning and had a response from them within a couple hours. The customer service agent seemed to have genuine concern in my problem and when above and beyond to take care of me. All I was really looking for from them was some replacement screws but instead they insisted on sending me out a brand new product with an extra set of screws so not only will I have a brand new item I could still use the one I previously bought. Top notch product, top notch manufacture that believes in their product, and top notch customer service!!! I definitely recommend this product along with some of their add on items as long as there is room for them where you plan to install these.

I just needed a simple storage solution to hang stuff on the garage ceiling and this has provided just that. I have mounted it onto the ceiling joist (studs) and it was quite simple to mount with a ladder, drill, and impact driver. It does wave side to side as you put stuff on it, but I feel confident it will be able to hold quite a lot of weight. In my case, I just stored paper boxes as I just needed floor and wall spaces. I think it is a great value for its cost. My only gripe is the fact that it is quite small, 45"x45" size. I wish it was a bit bigger for extra storage. The height is adjustable and can be hung much lower, but I needed it to clear my garage door. Pro: Simple design and installation Cost Sturdiness Con: Storage Size, width and length

I should preface this review with admitting to the fact that I get a bit more excited about organizational items than is reasonable. you may think of "a place for everything and everything in it's place" is something your mother said, but for me, it's more like a mantra for life. PROBLEM: when we bought a new house with a large-ish 2 car garage, i was happy. when i figured out that we couldn't have both cars in there, parked so that doors on both sides could be opened 3/4 or even 1/2-way, i got sad. then i started searching for shelving solutions and stumbled onto this product, among several others. this discovery led me to climb on a ladder and calculate that we had 200+ (!) cubic feet between the raised garage door and the ceiling. that's a lot of storage for all sorts of things that could be moved off the floor and away from the walls, freeing up more space on both sides. SOLUTION: these shelves! after doing a bunch of research, i decided this product was a good balance of price to functionality, and i'm so happy i did! bought 2 of these, installed them, loved it, bought 2 more. now, using all of the 110 cubic feet of previously completely dead storage space above the garage door (couldn't use up all 200 sq ft, read on for details). INSTALLATION: agree with other reviewers, installing these with a couple of people will go slightly faster and be more fun, but this is perfectly fine for a one man Saturday afternoon project. no revealing insights to add to what's already been said about the installation, but i'll just outline my experience and time investment. - figuring out where to place the shelves was the most difficult part. the garage is sheet rock-ed and painted, so i walked and climbed around with a stud finder, later switching to a drill with the smallest drillbit i had, and just drilled straight into the ceiling a bunch of times in order to find the center of each stud. no one, not even me, will care about a bunch of tiny holes up there. NOTE: in our garage, the studs run width-wise, side-to-side, as opposed to front-to-back, and are spaced 24" apart. the fact that the shelves are 45" wasn't a problem - in theory, you'd want 48", but these shelves are very forgiving. time - 2-2.5 hrs - WARNING: you have to account for a little spike/rise in the movement of the garage door on its rails. when panels are coming out of the turn, they are rise higher than they will be when the door is fully raised/opened. this - and the spacing of the studs - prevented me from placing the shelve closer to the front of the garage. in theory, i could've fit 8 of them, giving me that 200+ cubic feet of storage! oh, well. - drilling the holes, mounting the brackets and putting the shelves together takes, on average, 1hr per shelf, since they come partially preassembled. first one will take 1.5hrs, second one 1hr, third one, .75hrs, etc. if you have all the right tools handy (drill with the right bit, measuring tape, and 3 socket wrenches), you'll fly. RESULT: a ton of reclaimed space, empty walls, 2 cars in the garage - we're opening doors and walking around them like it's nobody's business. the garage looks empty from the street and the driveway. when i realized i could only lower the shelves 21" - missing out on something like 8-10 additional inches - i was sad, but what can you do. if i ever buy more of these for the sides of the garage, i will extend them fully and bask in the glory of all that storage space. highly recommend this product, it's completely worth the investment.

I just purchased & installed 4 of these on the garage door side of my finished garage. Now I have a lot of room to get my boxes of unused crap out of the basement and into the the far corner of the garage! :) So I feel great...now. Installing wasn't as easy as some of these reviews will have you believe. It all depends on your garage. The most difficult part of installing the storage system is determining exactly where the studs are. Mine were "roughly" 24" apart. At least for the left side of my garage. Anyone ever use a level on a ceiling? Either I'm missing something simple, or it's darn near impossible. Instead, I used a square to measure from the wall for the first install, and then used a combination of a CH Hanson 03040 Stud 4 Sure Magnetic Stud Finder and a tape measure to ensure the brackets would be installed in a straight line. Once you get the brackets up, and they line up properly, the rest is (should be) easy. That is, unless your garage is like mine. I share 1 wall with another townhome on the right side. Apparently the builders either got lazy or very creative on that side. The studs are not all in a straight line. They seem to form a rectangle of some sort. Also, the near wall isn't level, nor is the ceiling. So...that was fun. In the end, 2 of the support bars had to be installed in an angle, forming a trapezoid. At that point, one of the bars was just a bit too short, so I had to extend a hole at the end (yes, I used a very useful Dremel 8000-03 10.8-Volt Lithium Ion Cordless Rotary Tool to cut some steel) in order to get the last screw in place. So it took me a lot longer than others. But the end result was still worth it. However, if I had to do it all over again, I would have checked the studs on both sides of the garage first! **10/7/13 Update** New house, so I ordered 2 new units to install in my garage. And look, now they're 75% pre-assembled! Outstanding. Except I did disassemble 2 small sections to make it easier to screw into the ceiling, but overall I was quite impressed. Spent less time installing and the outcome was the same. **10/19/13 Update** The previous 2 went in so well, that I ordered one more. Well, this is where the product loses a star. The 3rd unit was in the same "75% Pre-assembled" box as the other 2, but the product inside was 0% assembled and was identical to the old version of the product I installed in the old house 2 years ago. I'd be somewhat ok with that, but the bracket that screws into the ceiling is different in the old version and would not match the new. So I had Amazon replace it...twice. And now both times I still get the old product in the new box. All 0% assembled and with the old parts. Arrghh. Even after explaining this to Amazon and them understanding the issue, I still got the wrong one. So a major Hyloft quality control issue and Amazon not quite meeting expectations. I'm almost afraid to try again.

We are the victims of an incredibly small garage. We finally took it upon ourselves to buy some shelving and move our clutter out of the way, so we could finally park the car in the garage. The Hyloft Overhead Storage System is a godsend. It fits easily on top of an automatic garage door, and supports about 250 pounds easily. They are an off white color that matches almost any paint job, and they are sturdy enough that a jiggle doesn't make you worry. I ordered these via Amazon Prime, and received them in about one business day (via 2 day shipping). The boxes are extremely heavy, so be warned. As far as installation, you will need a helping hand with these, and a great stud finder. We actually had a friend who is a bit more handcapable help us with installation, and we installed all four within an hour or so. They do have a bit of a rock in them by design, and you can adjust the height, but we found no need to, even with our garage door. I was really wary of these at first, but they are now an absolute must for the garage. Overall I would definitely recommend these to anyone who needs to take those towers of boxes off the garage floor and finally park their car in their garage. These are sturdy, simple, and a great deal for the price. We checked a lot of places first, and Amazon definitely has the best price, along with their usual guarantee. I have already recommended these to my friends.

I had been looking for a way to get my garage cleaned out. When these went on sale, I thought I would try a couple of them. They work great! Installation is easy, but time consuming and a little awkward. I installed them myself, but it would probably be better/quicker with two people. The instructions are a little thin, but after looking at all of the parts I was able to put it together in about 2 hours. The second one only took about 45 minutes. I didn't realize you could place the back of the unit snug against the wall because the picture shows it away from the wall. I left it about 3 inches from the wall because I didn't want to redrill the bolt holes, but if I did it again, I would place the back closer to the wall. You do need a little room on the sides for over hang. It seems to be qutie sturdy and well made. It sways a little bit when it wasn't loaded, but seems like a tank now that I connected the two units together and loaded them up. My only regret is that I didn't buy two more units at the great price of $40. They are back up to $60 so I guess I'll have to wait to finish my garage. It is a great product even though it is a little pricey.

Just got through installing 4 of these in my garage and so far I am very satisfied. The units are more than sturdy enough to declutter my garage, and yet everything is accessible if the need arises. Installation was fairly straight forward, although there are 2 things I would recommend. 1) Get someone to help with the initial placement of the angle iron anchors. They get placed 44 inches apart, and it would be rather diffucult to exactly measure the distance on the ceiling of your garage. Much easier to have one person hold the bracket in place, and have a second person mark the appropriate holes. 2) If you don't have one, invest in a 7/16 nut driver bit for your drill. It will be worth its weight in gold and spare you a sore shoulder (much better than hand driving the hex bolts into the celiing joists with a socket wrench). Anyway, the units prove to be very versatile as you can adjust the height and link them to each other to provide extra long storage spaces. I have several large storage bins, luggage, skis, a snowboard, and some dive gear up there and still have room for more. If your garage needs some TLC, these provide a significant amount of out of the way storage space for a decent price.

I went into this looking for two things: 1, add extra storage to my home; and 2, be able to install by myself. The HyLoft 540 was the answer to both. When I moved into my new townhome I quickly realized that my family and I had more stuff than space and adding storage to my garage seemed like an easy answer. My problem? I can barely hammer a nail to a wall (slight exaggeration, but nearly true). After more than a month of research I decided on the HyLoft system and I will never look back! I purchased two sets to I could have a side-by-side system. When it arrived the directions were clear and to the point. ANYONE can understand them. In all, it took me about an hour start to finish to install them both. It was mentioned in a previous review that they can swing a bit. Yes, this is true. But it took me about 5 minutes more to install 2 L-brackets to secure them to the wall. No swinging anymore. Plus, each set came with materials to tie the separate pieces together to create a seamless overhead storage system. The only con I have is that I was hoping to have a bit more height to store things. The packaging makes it seem like you can store two large containers stacked, but I just didn't find this possible. Maybe with two smaller storage tubs, but one is about all you'll get. Small complaint, I just re-packed a few tubs and everything fits. If you're looking for a great, easy-to-install system that is incredibly versatile, look no further!
