i don't see why not. i mounted it on a board that is mounted on the wall

What is the interior width? i need to mount something 17.5” wide.

Interior Width is a comfortable 17 3/8 inches wide. You could probably squeeze something 17 7/16 inches wide in but it would be tight and would probably rub on the edges.

I'll be mounting to wall studs; I assume the width between the screw holes is standard network gauge (18.312")?

Be careful with length.

There is a blocking at end, so if your item even one mm longer it will stick out in rack.
