Seagate is a reputable brand for Hard drives. I own a few of them and they are reliable and of a good quality. I bought this one because I wanted to replace an older model that was apparently starting to fail me. In fact, it was the cable that was starting to show signs of weakness. In any case, I do not regret this acquisition because I can fit 2 TB of data on one simple external USB 3.0 drive that is small enough to fit in one pocket. Speedwise, I got some true life reading speeds of a max of 110MB/s with an average of about 97MB/s. Not too bad for a regular disk plate drive. Now, remember that these things are still fragile. Do not shake or drop while using or it will get damaged. Do not use as a primary source of storage. External hard drives should only be used as backup or as a mean to carry physically data geographically on a temporary basis. If you really want some portable solutions that are resistant to shock, get an SSD. You will get much faster transfer speeds, a much better reliability but it will come at a cost. As for this unit, 2TB for about 70 Bucks is a very good deal.

I had 2 300 gigabyte external hard drives that are about the size of a cigar box. This hard drive is about the size of a pack of cigarettes a little longer maybe but only half as thick. It is easy to use. It doesn't require the use of any special software and it is incredibly fast. In fact you can work right off of it for most purposes using it as a primary drive rather than just using it for storage. The price was much lower than the 300 gigabyte hard drives I have had for about 8 - 9 years. I am a believer. It makes it very practical to store and retrieve paperwork and pictures that you would otherwise not bother storing. With this external hard drive and a fujitsu Scan Snap ix500, a paperless office is feasible for even small time operators like myself.

I absolutely LOVE this product! For the last several years, I have owned an older Seagate external Hard drive and I have filled it to the brim with data. It was given to me by my son years ago. When I realized I was going to need a new one, I panicked. I know NOTHING about this kind of thing. I didn't know what to buy or how to buy it. BUT, I knew I trusted the brand name because of the hard drive I already owned. So, I just looked up the brand name on amazon and bought the first hard drive I came across. This one. It's got ENORMOUS memory capacity and yet, it's smaller physically than my cell phone! How cool is that?! I was able to transfer all of my data that was in the old hard drive into this one with PLENTY of room left over to add tons more. AND, I get to keep the old one too and refill it! Whoop whoop! VERY PLEASED WITH THIS PRODUCT!

I have used three external hard drives so far, this is my fourth one and I have to say it's the best of the bunch. So what I mean by the best. Pros: 1) undoubtedly the design has to be its best feature. I mean how can so one fit 2TB of data in such a sleek design. Its so much light to carry around you can even keep it your back pocket although I won't recommend doing it for obvious reasons. 2) The read and write speeds are good I won't say the best but definitely better than my old WD external hard drive. 3) Product registration : this is one area I look for the most because it's always important to Register your hard drive to avail warranty. The product registration page is simple and even one with limited knowledge of tech can do it. Cons: 1)One of the biggest cons I observed is the drive keeps spinning even if I am not reading or writing the data to it. This has never been an issue with my previous hard drive. I don't know if it's common but I don't want to loose any sensitive data if in case the hard drive got pulled out accidentally while still spinning (this won't guarantee a data loss but will increase the risk of magnetic disk malfunction) . 2) The metal body is prone to scratches which are visible after some months, so for the persons looking for cosmetic beauty I advise keeping it In any soft cloth pouch (you can use a hard case but then whole point of slim case will become void) Final verdict : Will I recommend it to a friend or family member, the answer is straight yes. I even ordered one to my brother.

Over the past two years, this external hard drive has worked perfectly for backing up my laptops. The 2TB size is sufficient for full backups of two laptops with room to spare. I only use the drive for backups, but I anticipate it would work well for any data or media. I typically use this hard drive once a month, and so far there have been zero issues with data loss, corruption, etc. I strongly recommend this hard drive and would definitely buy it again. At around $66, it was a great value.

Hi, I am writing a feedback with hope that someone will see this article and will not buy this device. We bought 2 disks Seagate Backup Plus Ultra Slim 2TB Portable External Hard Drive, Platinum (STEH2000100) hoping that it will store information without problems, but after 4 months this device began to make noises and became invisible to the system. We took it out and gave it to the official service for diagnostics. Experts from the service opened hermetically sealed block and saw serious damages to the disk (shown at the picture), and told us it is impossible to restore information. HDD heads caused severe damages. It’s really a disaster (. No one was able restore this disk, as they said to many donors (the same disks) are needed, but no one guaranteed successful restoration of data from the disk. Information, collected while 4 months of operation, was lost and doesn’t exist anymore. There are lots of feedback when people tell that disk operated for two weeks or even less. It would be not so bad, as I collected information for 4 months and I can’t return it now. There are disks of Transcend and WD, companies and when they are out of operation it is really easy to restore information. You will pay for that, but you will restore information without problems. And Transcend and WD disks were issued during 3-5 years, and issuing of this one needed only 4 months. When I bought these disks in August there were no negative reviews regarding operation of this device. There were only nice reports and ratings, which after this case is really hard to believe in. I ordered the disks in the USA with the help of Amazon.com, paid for delivery and hoped that goods from the USA are of high quality and are tested comparing to Ukrainian products. But, unfortunately, the quality of the goods is just the same. We really thank Seagate for this, for cheap Chinese disk, which is not even tested and checked, for paid reviews (with good ratings, but absurd for future). For today I understand that I will never buy anything from this company (not from enterprise series) and will never recommend this company to my colleagues or friends.

Okay. So this took a minute to wipe and start fresh to be able to seamlessly use on my MacBook. Doesn't take a genius but your 45yo mother might have a hard time unless you get it ready for her in advance. There was some sort of data saver plan by Seagate. I don't see myself using it so that's why I wiped it. It's easier like that. What I like: i) the color matches the aluminum of a Mac. ii) it's slim. It's not an eSSD but it's also not priced like one and also it's not fat like a standard eHDD iii) 2TB is a lot of space. It'll last for a lot of 1080p downloads. More than most people need by a Longshot if you add in already existing internal space iiii) as I said the price is agreeable. What I would improve: Add a 90 degree angle cable. The one included protrudes very far making it not great for casual laptop use

You do not want to only rely on your internal drive. Especially in a notebook computer that gets lugged everywhere and can take a beating. This Seagate drive is a very nice unit. It is small and light weight. It is fast, very fast if your computer has a USB3 port. This drive comes with a short USB3 cable that also works with USB2. It also looks very nice but that's not really as important as it’s a Seagate and has a good reliability history. It is also very quiet, you need to put your ear next to it to hear it moving around inside. With one terabyte on board you get plenty of storage for your important files. There is also an offer for cloud storage in the box, 200GB for free for two years. Overall a great little drive to backup your stuff.

It is really sleek which is why I specifically ordered this product I haven't used much this product yet but till date it meets expectation It's better to buy a case to protect hdd

Buen HDD Externo, se ve muy bonito y tiene un indicador led que enciende cuando está funcionando el disco duro. Funciona sin problemas para ser usado en una Xbox One en los puertos dedicado para la transferencia de datos de alta velocidad (son los puertos indicados con "SS" en la consola). El cable que inlcuye es de 50 CM y es bueno. Tengo un case para guardar mi disco duro, pero el disco duro es muy delgado que la banda elástica no logra mantener el case sin movimiento al interior. Por todo lo demás está excelente y buena para su calidad. Lo que no me agradó por completo es que se siente mucho la vibración del disco duro cuando está en funcionamiento pero es aceptable y comprensible porque así funciona.
