Without the lid the box is 2 1/4" tall. Add another 1/4" for the alphabet divider tabs if you use them.

will it fit 4.5 inch and 2.5inch height cards?

It is only going to fit "standard" 3.5 inch wide business cards. It can accommodate a card taller than standard 2 inch maybe up to 2.5 inches in height as you asked but those will exceed the height of the file dividers that come with it. I would say no, it is only for standard size business cards.
