I've been using this cap for a couple of years now and the results are great! Yes, the holes are not there when you receive it and you have to spend some time poking them with something sturdy, like a thick needle or icepick. But given that you can use it over and over again, it's not a bad time investment. Pulling the hair strands through is not that bad unless you have very sensitive scalp. I suggest using a thin metal crochet hook, not a thick plastic one. Also, it is helpful to straighten the hair, because if you have curly or very wavy hair, it will most likely tangle as you pull it out and it can hurt you and damage your hair. Because the cap surface has bumps where the holes are located, it's fairly easy to find them with your fingers and you don't really need to use multiple mirrors to ensure that you don't skip any. If you have someone else at home at the time, ask them to look through the back of your head to see that you didn't miss any. The holes are not distributed evenly throughout the surface of the cap, but that works great for me. The front gets more coverage, giving you that "money piece" and the results look like professional (and expensive) color service from a salon. Probably not a great option for women with very long (like past mid back) hair, but I don't know, just my assumption. Unless you only touching up your roots, in which case you can only pull loops long enough to expose regrowth. Size wise: I have medium sized cranium and the cap is very tight, but I like it that way. Once you pull it on all the way, it stays put and doesn't shift its position and doesn't slide off. If you never did cap highlights, the first one or two times may not go as smooth as you'd like and the results may not be 100% satisfactory, but you will get better at it with more practice.

The cap does not come with prepunched holes. The worst part is that if you have thin or prebleached hair, the risk of breakage is HIGH if you use this cap. It's super rough on your hair and will likely result in some fallout. Mine took off a few chunks of hair, along with using color oops. I like the adjustable band but it's just not a good method for hair health. It's also a bit difficult to grab hair from it. Please go to a salon and save yourself time and hair.

It stays put on the head when you pull it down and you can turn up the bottom so the ears are exposed, otherwise I don't think I could stand it down over my ears I gave it a 3 rating because there no pre made holes and you have to push the "crochet type of implement" very hard to break through the plastic. I kept poking it into my head and had a red, sore head. Then I changed and pushed the metal hook sideways into the holes and did better at missing my head. The other 3 rating is because the chin strap tears off. THE PROS: the rubber is self healing and I don't think it will leave holes that bleach in future use can seep through and accidentally bleach the underlying hair. I didn't notice that the cap I received did not have the chin straps. It appears they were torn off. I wasn't going to use them anyway, but Amazon is getting bad at shipping damaged goods. They need to start designating items as USED instead of sending damaged goods and let the consumer decide if they want used items. I used to have a heavy duty rubber cap that I used for years, but I can't find it. The needle was easier to poke through it, but is was so heavy it had a tendency to keep sliding up on my head and it created the risk of not bleaching the strands close to the head. TIP: this time I used an animal flea comb to comb the hair after I pulled it through the holes. The teeth on these combs are very close together and work so much better than a regular comb to get the hair pulled completely through the cap holes and allow the cap to stay very close to the roots.

Material of excellent quality and stays in place without moving from one side to another. It is thick and, in my case, talcum powder is mandatory to get it in place. This is better than the loose ones and than those that fall apart after. I did poke the holes BEFORE using it as it is thick and it would be very annoying to poke the holes with it in the head. The best among the others I tested. I would recommend it. No magic to avoid the annoying process but this is better than the others I tested.
