Appears to be identical to the ceramic Kalita for nearly double the price
This is our first Kalita, and we are enjoying it. We normally use two Aeropresses to get our separate brews. Now, we are gauging a single Aeropress versus this nice coffee creator. We find this cuts out harsh notes from darker roasts. It also largely eliminates the oil film we get with our Aeropress, of which the oil contains a component or two that raises LDL. However, the Kalita also reduces some better notes in a few coffees. This is partly due to the much larger area of filter contact, versus the small disc the Aeropress has. The three holes look tiny, but the coffee freely flows through, as designed by Kalita and its competitor, the V60. This may also impact the flavor, as there is not a lot of time for the water to interact with the coffee grounds. My wife has found that repouring the coffee back over the coffee grounds pulls out more taste, while using more water would further weaken the brew. The Kalita Wave is very easy to clean and seems well made. We like this approach and it makes coffees you might not like from an Aeropress taste better. The description says it is porcelain, but when tapped, it seems a normal ceramic item, not unlike a ceramic mug. It does not sound like a porcelain item, with a denser clay base within. Hands down, this is a good buy and we expect to encourage others to get this.

Better than Blue Bottle Dripper
I prefer this dripper over V60 and Blue Bottle dripper for daily brewing. But let me explain. The V60 is very different, so I don’t really consider it to “compare” or “vs” with the Wave. They brew so differently, I believe you need both in your pour over kit. The Blue Bottle dripper is sort of like the idiot proof brewer. It will brew a good cup of Joe no matter what you do… however, you sacrifice some of the clarity and other aspects of the coffees that go through it. The Kalitta Wave is a bit like the Blue Bottle Dripper, in that it brews a good coffee pretty much every time, but it also has a bit more clarity or crispness. Yet smoother and less hassle to the V60. So the Wave hits a sweet spot in coffee pour over. Try them all. I really think spending $100 on different ceramic brewers is better than $100 on a plastic machine with aluminum heating coils. But if you wanted to buy one, and you aren’t into light roast fruity weird coffees, the Kalitta Wave is perhaps the most solid brewer out there.

delicious single cup
I have 4 different ways to make coffee. I mean, I’m dedicated to a good cup. I made 4 cups this a.m. using this little fella. I sit the kalita on the mug. wet the filter while it’s in kalita. yes, you need to buy their filters. Thicker. I used an electric kettle. 21 g fine grounds. 60-80 g boiling hot water. let sit to moisten those grounds 30-60 seconds. Pour in additional 200-300 g boiling hot water. Serve it up - delish. This process was for one cup for one person in my household. I bought their ceramic version based on a ton of reviews, wirecutter and I wanted to dish wash not do fussy handwashing. Love it. Took a while to receive by mail but worth the wait. Thank you coffee gods.

Pretty solid
Dropped it with some force onto the kitchen floor and it just chipped a little off the base. Pretty solid ceramic.
