Cannot find the info on the bottle.** A: In my experience, lanolin will keep for several years unless it's seriously contaminated. The use-by dates for lanolin tend to be one year after opening, but seriously? I think that may be a precautionary note. **Q: Would this work for breastfeeding moms?** A: My wife used it regularly when nursing our 3 kids. Usually once a day, maybe more. She says it reduced the irritation and dry skin. The pure, 100%, is anhydrous and thus very thick and sticky, takes a little rubbing to work into the skin. Some places (maybe not Now Foods) sell a hydrous version with a little water, nothing else, so it's a bit thinner and easier to spread (that's most likely what was in the squeeze container mentioned below as anhydrous would be too thick for a squeeze-tube). After a fairly long time (not sure exactly how long) the anhydrous becomes very thick and difficult to use with a slight change in color, but it still works. **Q: Is this lanolin cleaned in some way, or pasteurized, after being taken from the sheep's wool?** A: I don't see anything on the label indicating that it has been pasteurized. However, I'm sure the manufacturer has used some process to exclude contaminants, since it appears clean in my opinion - no hairs or other visible dirt. My nose is not offended by the mild scent. It has a very thick texture and a translucent golden color, maybe a shade darker than A & D ointment if you are familiar with that product. I use this lanolin mainly on my hands in winter time here in Pennsylvania where the cold dry winter air can do a real number on skin. Today when I go outside to shovel about a zillion feet of snow in the howling wind, I will use some on my face as well as on my hands to protect against the drying effects of said howling wind. For this purpose it is excellent. I've been using it a little over a year now with no ill effects. I don't see that it is labeled for use as a food and I would not recommend ingesting it. **Q: Is this the lanolin used to treat wool diaper covers?** A: Yes.
