The real deal
Many of us in the western United States have excellent access to wilderness. Along with access, it is important to be thoughtful and respectful of wilderness, doing as little harm as possible (even a boot print in the wrong place is a problem). So, an element of respect is needed. Beyond that, it is important to know techniques for survival. Most of the information available to amateurs like myself is of dubious quality or even so incorrect that it is damaging. The books of this author are top quality information, and they will help you a lot to carry proper gear with you and to know how to use it for your advantage in survival in the Boreal forest. The author has recently passed away, and I think it is a great loss to everyone. I recommend all the books he wrote---and especially this one---to everyone who wishes to approach the majesty of the Boreal forest both respectfully and safely.

A good read!
This was a gift for a friend. I’ve heard from him that he has been reading this diligently. He has been surprised how well written it is and how useful he’s found it to be already. He’s looking forward to putting his new found knowledge to practice!

The book is OK but...
this is a good book but it's long and drawn out. The author (a deceased icon) could have said the same thing in half the space.

Good information
Mors Kochanski is one of the understated "dirt teachers" of this era. Since he specializes primarily in the further Northern regions, and COLD climate survival he has not received the widespread reputation of many others more diverse instructions. Still his life experience in the most inhospitable climes of the frozen North is the best available. His blending of modern materials with "old wisdom" puts him in a unique place between the die-hard traditionalist and the modern materials ultra-lite obsessed outdoors person. His idea for the "super shelter" combinations these two worlds all with one goal in mind- safest and most enjoyable enjoyment of the wilderness. Good read with Common Sense approach to getting away from modern "civilization".

This book has a great amount of important detail
This book has a great amount of important detail, it is my only book from Mors but if the rest of his works are as good I would be happy to own them. Editing needs to done though as there are spelling mistakes and a few times I had to stare at the word for a few moments to get what it`s meaning. Still a book to own.

Should be required reading for all true survival focused persons.
This overview of how to prepare and survive in this book is the best I have ever seen (many years of reading up on how to survive if necessary). The detail is unique down to the art of how to sharpen and chose knives and tools that will be needed in these situations of survival. (just one of thousands of useful bits of information in this easy read)This should be required reading for all High school age young men and woman that truly want to be independent in their lives no matter what the circumstances are.

Good book full of old school knowledge
If you are into practical wilderness skills, then this book is for you. If you look at your mind and what you know as your greates wilderness tool, this book is for you. If you are enamored with expensive gear and gadgets and wilderness living via the latest fads, look elsewhere. I live in the SE United States, far away from the boreal forest but many of the skills in this book apply here.

Best bushcraft book
Great read, written by one of the best bushcraft instructors ever. Easy to follow diagrams and instructional drawings. I wish I had bought this years ago

not so good - but better than nothing
Mors Kochanski is a bit of a bushcraft icon, his book bushcraft is a bible for many and it's even believed he was one of guys who taught Ray MEARS' so I bought this "new" book with great expectations - sadly I was disappointed on many levels.Firstly the spelling mistakes are many and make reading it at times a little hard. Secondly the information is repeated in some sections several times - this "robs" the reader of papers as you don't need to read how to dress, cut and pasted it seems, several times in different chapters.Lastly - if you have read Bushcraft, and any of the little Booklets Mor's produces I wouldn't waste money on this book as its not really anything new.All that aside if your new to bushcraft or Mor's then this is a good book to read - it certainly wouldn't be a waste of money in that respect.Overall - disappointed as there hasn't been a good bushcraft book out in ages and it seems there still isn't anything new.
