At first it sounds like Living Colour vocalist Corey Glover was spliced into a joint project between Faith No More and Testament, but the longer Sevendust's self-titled debut album plays, the more it takes on its own life. The Atlanta, Georgia band is well schooled in thrash metal, but it has a soft spot for sing-along melodies and more than a passing interest in hip-hop. Cobbled together, the results could sound fractured and divisive, but Sevendust's surging wah-wah guitars, razor-edged riffs, bloodcurdling screams, and soulful vocals blend together as smoothly as strawberries and rum. --Jon Wiederhorn

    Finally..Sevendust on Vinyl!!

I'm glad Sevendust finally released an album on vinyl, although the band had nothing to do with this release from what I undrestand. I hope they will release other albums on vinyl as well. I love this debut album and having it on special edition yellow vinyl is a nice addition to my record collection. I love this band and will buy anything they release :)

    One of a kind, even 18 years later.

When I heard this album the first time, around 1997, I didn't know exactly what to think about it. 'Terminator' was a heavy track with a strange lyric delivery. Then off and on through the remainder of the album Lajon Witherspoon went back and forth with melodic, almost soothing tones to screaming again. Everyone back then that I talked to said they weren't heavy enough or they were too heavy. Whatever it was, I thought it was awesome. I am still a huge Sevendust supporter today. I often think of them as one of the first bands that opened the door toward what became known as 'metalcore'. Not that they are as heavy as metalcore became, but because they were all at once heavy and continuously switching between clean and harsh vocals.
