Does this have a hysteresis, or "swing" temp control?

It does not, but here is a work-around: Honeywell *does* have a control that sets the cycles per hour, this is called "Heating Cycle Rate" and is function #0240 on my Honeywell RTH7600D. The default for this is "5" cycles per hour, I set mine to "1". This has minimized annoying and inefficient cycling on my gas furnace. To make sure I knew exactly what was going on, I also turned off "Smart Response Technology", function #0530. I am not certain that the "Heating Cycle Rate" numbers correspond *exactly* to cycles per hour, but I believe that they are at least proportionate. Good luck!

Does this need a C wire or does it run on batteries?

This does not need a C wire. It uses two AA batteries. Honeywell (and others such as Trane) use a C wire on models that use WiFi or voice recognition or Z-wave so they can have a 24V connection. All thermostats use low voltage from the other connectors and typically use the batteries as a backup when there's no C wire. For this thermostat, you can take it off the wall, hold it in your hands and program it. You can't do that on models that don't use batteries. However, those other models can be programmed from a computer or phone app so it's less necessary.

Does it have a programmable fan?

Depends on your definition of 'programmable'. It can be set one of two ways: "On" - fan is always on, "Auto" - fan only runs when heat/cool is on. Those are the only fan settings.

Why would you buy this thermostat over the one that costs $26, also from Honeywell?

We bought as the same reason as below. For us, the Honeywell RTkH7600D offered the possibility of setting automatic individual heat/cool cycles or programs for each day of the week. The $26 one offers program settings for Monday-through-Friday (one set that applies to all of the 5 weekdays) and a second programmable sets for Saturday and Sunday. We wanted to be able to set different programs for EACH day of the week. I bought two of these and they work great.

Great upgrade and easy to program!

I am very satisfied with this 7-day programmable thermostat. The touchscreen interface is highly responsive and easy to navigate. Programming different schedules for weekdays and weekends is simple and has drastically helped lower my monthly energy bills. The display is bright and easy to read, even in low light. Installation was also very straightforward with the included instructions. Highly recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable, non-smart programmable thermostat!

Easy to Install Touch Screen Thermostat (no "C" wire required)

For those without a "C" wire, this Honeywell 7-day programmable touchscreen thermostat is an excellent choice out of the seemingly countless number of thermostats available in today's society. We had an 11 year old push button type of Honeywell thermostat, and decided to update it with this one. Installation was super simple. First, make sure you turn off the electricity to the thermostat (no need for an electrical injury). Remove the old thermostat, but first record where the different colored wires fit in with the configuration on the panel where the different wires connect. I took a photo of the setup for easy reference. With the new back-plate, secure it on the wall, then connect the four wires to their proper installation points on the terminal. They corresponded exactly to the same lettering in the old unit. Make sure to place fresh batteries into the front plate. Snap the front plate into position. Turn on the electricity. Program the new thermostat to the temperatures you want throughout the days of the week. We like the touchscreen because it is sleek, without any protruding buttons. If we did have a "C" wire, we would have purchased a similar-looking thermostat that would be able to take advantage of the features that utilize the "C" wire. This thermostat has a default display of the temperature in Fahrenheit. We live in Canada, so we wanted the temperature to be displayed in Celsius. This was easy to do, and is explained in the instructions that come with the thermostat.
