I like this controller and ovr time, I have purchased three versions of it for myself and bought one for a relative as a gift last year. It connects easily and I appreciate being able to see basic charging info. However, be aware that if you have problems, from a blown circuit (or whatever happened to my first unit- I'm not an electrician) or God forbid, make a return request (my relative didn't want it and went in a different direction), you must be prepared to waste a tremendous amount of time dealing with Renogy. You'll have to fight to get anything resolved. When my first controller died, and I still don't know why, I contacted the company to see if they could trouble shoot or if I had any options with my warranty. They made me send tons of written info, pictures, purchase info (they can't see what I did with Amazon?) etc. After a couple of weeks and multiple emails, they said nope, sorry- it was out of warranty. Why couldnt they have started with that?! I was annoyed, but accepted it and moved on. The next two units I bought (a 40A and a 60A) worked right out of the box, and they are working for me at this very moment, no issues. Fast forward to the last unit. I requested a return because my relative didn't want it and had waited a month to tell me that. Amazon clearly said that there is an extended period to return this item bc it was bought during the Christmas season. It was after 30 days, but before the final deadline. Thank goodness I screenshotted that info! I noticed on Renogy's item description that they only gave you 30 days (and the item must not have used at all) and that beyond that, you needed "special permission" to return. I didnt want to take any chances so I contacted them directly. I told them it was brand new, never used. They gave me a HUGE run around. How does this make sense... I told them it was still in the factory wrap in the factory sealed box, so clearly it was in perfect condition. They made me open the box and TAKE PICTURES of the unit to prove it was new?!!! I had to send all screenshots of my Amazon contact and of Amazon's promise of an extended return window. I sent at least 8 pictures all told. Why couldn't they access this info, or just know it? I'm not kidding- I wasted so much time putting it all together. Multiple emails in between. I jumped through every hoop they asked me to, and was not getting any concrete resolution. I finally called Amazon directly and told them what was happening. They assured me that the return was OK, and THEY refunded me. However, to this day, the item still reads "waiting for return", even though a rep at Renogy finally told me in an email that they got the unit back. I have the screenshot of the post office tracking that marked it "delivered" to them too. I was still stressed until I got my credit card bill that showed that everything was ok. Note: Amazon went the extra mile for me on this too- I had purchased an extended warranty on this controller and figured Assurion would just keep my money, so why fight it? Amazon automatically refunded that to me too. I almost fell over with gratitude. So, to end my book here- if you buy anything from Renogy, make sure you REALLY want it. I just saw today that they are charging a 10% restocking fee if you try to return something. Ridiculous- stand behind your product or get out of the space, Renogy. Pray to the solar gods that the items you order work because when they do, they are awesome. However, the company was a total pain to deal with if you need any assistance. I will avoid purchasing from them again if possible.

now 60 days of use with 1600 watts and 82 VDC input @ 24 Volt DC output. FOr the first 30 days it was only putting out 30.0 amps on average TOPS. Well the small 40amp system was putting out 22 amps with 4 panels of the same string.. I couldnt figure it out for over a month, it had no faults, well it finally goes into "overtemp" and "limit" so i read the manual again, the device temp at 50C limits the amperage from 60 amps to at most 30 amps, NO fans are installed on this MPPT 60 amp controller or the 40 amp version. This is where it fails in design specs. because soon as i added a 24 volt 3 inch blower fan it brought it to 32-36C or room temp, Now it puts out 45 amps to 55 amps at peak. Then you have the "boost mode" that is meant to put out a max amount of amperage for a set time 2hr by default , well the BOOST mode puts out 20 amps instead of the full 60 amps , im only seeing 1300-1400 watts max when in MPPT mode. it rarely ever puts out the full 1600 watts that i have wired up Due to HEAT. sad i spent close to $300 for this 60 amp version and it has no cooling fans only cooling fins. the fins quickly overheat within 20mins of 45amps and then "limit" mode kick in. i have sized the wire to what is called for 6 gauge wire for 75 amps of DC no wires get hot or even warm, the device however is HOT to the touch. Renogy has a design flaw! i would never buy this charge controller again if it burns up, this is my first 2 charge controllers with Renogy because i heard good things about them. Well im starting to think the products are poorly designed and not thought out considering i cant get the other 20 to 30 amps out of my system at peak sun due to "device over temp" mode kicking on, even with a 24 volt blower fan it still only draws 30. to 40 amps on average which is well below what it should be putting out. Maybe i need to request a replacement? Only reason i haven't it is my main power and i cant do with it being down! i expected better. The 40 amp controller with 400 watts put out 22 amps which is much better then the larger system, i have NO cooling fans on it and it is almost the same amperage as the 1600 watt system which just doesn't make any sense. Maybe winter time will be different? its in a 6 x 8 shed that gets to an outside temp of 96-98F with more 12 volt fans slowly ventilating the shed.
