They come pre-seasoned but I scrubbed em clean & reseasoned em anyway. Pros: These seem very well built. The cast iron part had no defects and the poles feel substantial and well made. The poles come unscrew off and come in two pieces so you can choose your length. This also makes it easy to store. I used them at full length over a campfire in a large firepit. The shorter length seems like it would be ideal over a small fire, a stove or a grill. The fact that the pole unscrews from the pie iron makes cleanup easier too. The pie iron halves separate easily when using. Cons: My only con is probably a personal preference thing but it has grill ridges on the inside. I guess people like those grillmarks, but these pie irons are small, Wonderbread-sized. It makes it a little bit of a pain to clean. I like my camp kitchen supplies to be as easy to clean as I can manage since cleaning up while camping is not as easy as at home.Would I recommend these? Yes! Its great for solo camping and makes cooking a little more fun. I made burgers, ham & swiss pudgie pies with crescent dough and chocolate chip cookies in mine and this thing performed beautifully and stored away compactly.
