A real work horse
This is my second Janome Skyline S3. I purchased the first locally from a sewing machine store 8 years ago and have used it almost nonstop making quilts, bags, etc. When my first Skyline wouldn't turn on this summer, I took it to the local repair shop and it was the power supply that needed replaced. The part was on backorder indefinitely. So I looked on Amazon to see if they had a Janome Skyline S3 just like my old one, and they did! I was so excited to get another one because I just love this model. I did finally get my old one back from the shop, so now I have two. Not a problem, I can let my granddaughter use it since she is becoming a quilter also.

Excellent Janome Skyline S3
The Janome Skyline S3 is an excellent sewing machine. It is very sturdy and stronger than my previous Janome. The Skyline S3 goes through thick layers of fabric - like hemming jeans and is great sewing soft delicate fabrics as well. I've been sewing for over 30 years and I am pleased with everything about this machine. Would highly recommend.

Great Machine, strange cover
This Janome machine is wonderful - really delivers standard stitches as well as decorative ones. It comes with a cover (dust cover) that does not allow for the carrying handle to fit through it. So if you transport your machine, you need to do so without the cover.

Great Product
I do love Janome Sewing Machines, and so, the decision to buy the Skyline S3 as an upgrade from my smaller Janome model was not a difficult one. The reviews were great and it seemed to have all I was looking for.Delivery was fast. I received it a day early, in fact. And the machine is wonderful. My suggestion for a beginning sewer would be to start with a little bit smaller, portable machine. But, for an intermediate/skilled seamstress/sewer, this Skyline S3 is perfect. My sewing history is long and varied. I learned to sew at age 8 on my mom's Singer in the 60s! Since then I've sewn adult and children's clothing, all levels of ability; lightweight curtains, table runners, etc.; I've done quilting; clothing alterations; made dolls, carry bags, fabric books, facemasks (a first, this year!), and all sorts of miscellaneous fabric related items. The Skyline S3 does everything I wanted a machine to do, without an extremely hefty price tag.Several things I appreciate about this machine are: Moderate size; Handles thicker fabrics; Feed dog can be lowered for free motion quilting; Optional presser foot or machine push button for start/stop sewing; Automatic thread cutter; Plenty of programmable decorative stitches (without being overwhelming); Fast and easy buttonholes.Stitching is a dream - it's smooth and quiet. I just want to sew all day!! Highly recommend the Janome Skyline S3.

A workhorse of a machine
ETA: I've had this for four years now and it's still a beautiful machine. I have a small childrensware business so I put in a lot of hours on it every week. I've seen denim, chiffon, 12 layers of tulle+brocade, knits, etc. 10/10Ive only had this for a few weeks now, but I am impressed. It sewed silk gauze like a dream, and through 16 layers of medium weight linen just as easily as two. The foot pedal is incredibly responsive as well. I think the UI is easy enough for even a beginner to figure out, and you can switch to a straight or zigzag with just the touch of a button. It's very quiet during use, and thanks to that very heavy weight it doesn't so much as vibrate even going full blast. The feed is nice and smooth too. I let my young daughter "help" sew a few scrap pieces and she was getting nice even lines with very little manipulation. It also handles curves with ease.I do agree though that the bobbin winder could use some improvement. I don't have near as much trouble with mine, but every now and then it winds a bit loose.

Machine broke after 5 months.
Machine broke after only a few months. We returned it and haven't heard back from them in 4 weeks. Customer service communications are terrible. We will follow-up on this review to report if they remedy the problem. Not happy!
