If you are using Bose TV Speaker it is enough for any big room get good sound. No need any other speaker for louder sound.

Does this communicate with a hdmi (arc) connection?

Yes, and it’s better to do so. Once you connect it via HDMI (Arc) connection, you can use the TV remote to raise or lower the volume. In addition, the speaker will automatically switch on as soon as you power the TV. Yet, to my experience, the setting of the speaker such as the Bass, will have to be done using the speaker’s remote.
