Great laptop with nice features
Loving my new laptop Pros: With an SSD, 10th gen i5 CPU, dedicated GPU, and fast RAM, this machine runs very quickly. Perfect for multitasking, video editing, and playing modern games at medium settings. Quick boot time. Backlit keyboard looks great. HDMI out, USB-C, USB 3.1. Screen looks good in 1080p and at 144hz. I've seen other reviewers complain about the keyboard responsiveness but on the unit I received there have been no issues (typing this review on here right now!). Awesome value for the price (I paid $730). Cons (all minor issues): Lid is a fingerprint magnet No display port output, no dual link DVI output No card reader Response time on 144hz display could be better Built in speakers are decent but could be better This version of the laptop does not have the easy access panels on the bottom to get to the RAM and/or HDD whereas older Nitro 5 versions had easier access to upgradable components. Power button is a standard keyboard key near numlock. This is only a con because if the keyboard stops working I won't be able to turn on the PC. Other laptops I've used have a power button which is not on the keyboard itself. Overall I am quite happy with this computer although I have only had it for about a week. Will update this review if anything changes.

Great gaming laptop
This laptop is great for gaming, which is all I use it for. I got the i5 version and I’m impressed with how well it handles AAA games. There are a couple of negatives, for sure, but they can be overlooked for the most part. First, storage is minimal. Luckily, it has a second m.2 port for a drive as well as room for a standard SATA SSD or HDD. I added a 1TB m.2 drive, another 1TB SSD, an external 1TB HDD, and an external 2TB m.2 SSD. That’s enough storage for many games, and probably overkill for most people. But I have a collection of games that I want access to at any time. It handles all of the drives and games really well. Instant status on most of them. Next is battery life. It’s bad. Like really bad. I’ve done two battery powered gaming sessions with it and I’m lucky to get an hour and a half off play time. The fans can be really loud. Necessary, I’m sure, but they can get up there. You can put them into Whisper mode when streaming, though. Other than those few negatives, I can say that this is an amazing laptop. I’m able to play AAA games at ultra settings while streaming them out and the computer handles it well. Startups are instantaneous. You get to your desktop before your external monitor even catches up. It’s great! Programs load FAST. All of the games I have startup quickly. All of the stores (GOG, Steam, Battle.net, Epic) startup quickly so you can get to your libraries super quick. I should add that I upgraded the RAM to 32GB. Overall, I recommend this laptop to any gamer if you need even more power, the i7 version can offer even more, which we’ll likely be my next purchase.

Great budget gaming laptop, poor battery life
For the price and the specs you recieve on this laptop, it's a great computer. It's plenty capable of playing video games at high resolution, I've seen multiple game play videos of modern newer games being played. It's pretty light too and feels and looks nice. It looks like a gaming computer too. I love the red outline on the keyboard as well as the red led lighting the keyboard has. (NOTE: This specific model only supports Red as a color option for keyboard back light.) I've only owned this product for less then a day so far, but so far no issues and runs nice. I booted Sims 4 up real quick and was able to run at full resolution at 144hz. The battery life isn't that great, but if you're near a outlet then just leave it plugged into the outlet. (Battery drains fast on high performance mode) Overall rating: 5.0 out of 5.0 stars Pros: Fast, Light, Looks and feels great, Red backlight keyboard, for gaming, budget gaming pc, vr ready, Cons: Battery life poor on high performance mode dies in couple hours under normal usage, audio isn't that loud, even with volume at max settings, Updated: after a bit of moderate to heavy use I do say that the heat is a major issue with this laptop. It gets extremely hot close to 200 which is way to hot. So I recommend buying a laptop cooling fan pad. It's plays cyberpunk2077 at the highest settings that I can adjust just fine though. If it can play that I have no doubts it'll play any other game.

Pretty good stuff at a reasonable price point
Ok, so I have three complaints: 1) The battery life is nowhere near what they advertised, you'll be lucky to go 3 hours on a single charge depending on what you're playing or what you're using it for. Not such a huge deal for me personally, I like to use it plugged in so I can maximize performance anyway, but it's a flaw nevertheless. 2) This thing gets HOT. For playing more taxing games, you're gonna want it sitting on a cool, flat surface like a dinner table or a desk, and even then you probably want to invest in a cooling pad just in case. Resting it on your lap or on the couch can turn this thing into a space heater. Luckily the nifty little Nitrosense feature makes it really easy to keep an eye on your system's exact temperatures and adjust your fans accordingly. 3) When the temperatures start to climb, these fans get VERY loud, the sound of them can actually drown out the speakers enough to make it hard to hear your game audio. Not a huge deal, just play with headphones if you can, or get some good speakers hooked up. That's about where the cons end with this thing. It's extremely fast and efficient, you'll find it meets the requirements of most newer PC games (probably not Cyberpunk 2077 lol), and it looks very cool. Setup takes no time at all, there's minimal bs software to uninstall, you get lightning fast download speed, everything just works and works fast.

Best gaming laptop under $1000
First things first, if you're looking for a decent portable gaming rig that can handle most games then this is the laptop for you. At just under $1000 this laptop slays the competition on price! It's rocking an Nvidia1650. So you're in the mid range on graphics. Haven't come across a game I can't run. If you're a gamer and shopping on a budget, this laptop gives you the most bang for your buck. Battery life is decent when not gaming and just doing mundane things like surfing the web. You'll get a decent 7-8 hours battery life. Streaming knocks it down to about 5-6 and gaming 3-4. So all in all I'm very pleased with this purchase and would recommend to any hard-core pc gamers who are looking to get the most out of a $1000 budget. BUY THIS LAPTOP! YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!

Great for a modest gamer like me
I have been using this for about a year, and I adore this gaming laptop. It doesn't have a great battery life, but then battery life is really only important to me if my laptop has a mobile life (which this one doesn't--I only game in my house). I mostly play Guild Wars 2, but have also played Valheim on it, both of which have not insignificant demands on the processor, and it runs great. I'm not a graphic junkie but in my eyes the graphics are very nice, and the only lag I can see is only because of our trash wifi. The keyboard holds up pretty well, and the touchpad is nice and sensitive. The fan can get a tad noisy, but it doesn't bother me and it keeps the laptop relatively cool. I also regularly hook it up to a televison via HDMI cord, and there is barely any lag or other bliffs while it's hooked up. On that topic, that is another thing I really like about this machine--it has A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF PORTS. The only complaint I would have (and it could actually have to do with how I have the settings) is with the speakers. The laptop could project more, compared to other gaming laptops I have witnessed (like MSI or even my asus zenbook ux333). However, I only really notice this when using Discord. So, just FYI. Overall, I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants an affordable and well-performing gaming computer.

So Far, So Good
As of today, 3/21/2021, I've had this computer now for 4 days. I bought this computer as an early birthday gift to myself and to replace an old laptop. While I know a few things about computers, I don't claim to know enough to build my own computer. I was a bit scared to get this; gaming laptops have a stereotype of looking "edgy" with sharp corners and LEDs targeted at "hardcore" gamers. I wanted, at the very least, a powerful, competent, portable gaming rig, and I seem to have gotten what I want out of this. PROS: 1. This computer is no slouch! After a quick Windows setup, I was up and at 'em, downloading my Steam games in hardly any time at all. Within literal seconds, I was playing my favorite games at max settings with no problems. 2. For something primarily made of plastic, it feels really nice and smooth to the touch. 3. After a RAM upgrade (I upgraded the RAM from 8GB to 16GB before first boot), this computer can handle anything I throw at it. 4. The keyboard is really nice. I'm still getting my bearings with it (I'm not used to a laptop with a numpad), but the keys feel nice and springy, they aren't loud while typing, and the illumination is nicer than I thought it'd be. You couldn't mistake it for anything other than a laptop aimed at gaming. 5. Battery life is fine. Not terrible, not great, but serviceable. 6. This bad boy stays nice and cool while gaming! It never got unbearably hot to the touch or loud with its fans. While playing the most intensive PC game I own (Planet Coaster, lol) at max settings, I didn't encounter any dropped frames, hiccups, stutters or lag. 7. The speakers are nice. Good for gaming and watching YouTube videos. 8. The screen is crisp, clear and bright. CONS: 1. As stated above, this particular model comes with a single stick of 8GB of DDR4 RAM. I'd say don't spring for anything less than 16GB if you're going to be playing graphic heavy games (or games in general, really), but this wasn't an issue that another stick (or two if you're going higher; I believe this laptop supports 32GB at max?) of RAM couldn't fix. 2. Even though the plastic chassis is nice and smooth, it's also a shiny fingerprint magnet, so have a microfiber cloth handy for wipe downs (with the unit turned off, of course). 3. The offset trackpad is a bit of a hinderance for me right now, four days of usage in, but I'm sure I'll get used to it over time. 4. There is no webcam cover. 5. Again, something I'll probably get used to with time: because there is a full numpad to the right of the keyboard, the keyboard is also offset and I tend to misinput and mistype more often. I'll think that I pressed a key when I really hadn't. 6. SO. MUCH. BLOATWARE. Most of it can be uninstalled though, so that's a good thing. 7. It has a 256GB NVMe SSD. If you play a lot of games or really big games, you're going to fill that up fast. Luckily, you an upgrade this with another NVMe SSD or a SATA drive (the laptop comes with a SATA cable for easy installation). FINAL THOUGHTS: All in all, I'm quite pleased with my purchase of the Acer Nitro 5. I hope I can still say that 1, 2, even 5 years down the line.

Wonderful option for more than just gaming
I waited to make sure I really liked this laptop because I was so on edge about spending so much money for something that might not be what I want. I am a writer, artist, video editor, content creator and sometimes a gamer (often enough to care that my computer can handle it). I wanted to be able to do everything on this computer and I have been able to no problem. Yes I already have to upgrade space, which is fine I should had just paid extra for more space to begin with. But this laptop does allow you to upgrade easily so no biggie if you cheap out at first like I did. I also do have to always keep it plugged in but I've always done that anyway with past laptops because I don't often use it outside of home. I couldn't tell you how long it's lasted me off the plug because of that. Although I was playing skyrim when I first got it and it wasn't completely plugged in and it didn't last 4 hours in the game before the computer was warning me to charge it but I don't know how long it wasn't plugged in before hand while I was setting everything up. FYI - you'll hear a click when it's ACTUALLY plugged in. I've never had a gaming laptop and I never considered that I could use one for everything. But I love everything about it. It's my new baby.
