Hello, This is buffalo leather. In the industry it is classed as "full-grain" meaning that it is the outer-most full layer of hide. It is not split hide (underside) or the common "genuine leather" (scrap leathers pressed together and called 'genuine' to mask the true nature of the leather). You can identify this by looking at the leather and seeing the variation of patterns across the leather, much like real skin varies over regions. Lower-grade leathers will look very uniform in comparison as they are embossed with an artificial pattern. They are also not as tough as this outmost layer of hide. That is why they wear out quickly.
