Sight Reading Mastery for Bass Guitar (Learn how to play bass)

A pedagogue, not a theoretician
You can tell this is the work of a really experienced, compassionate teacher who has taught musicians at all levels of experience. The book consists of around 30% instruction and 70% exercises, organized by key signature. I really like these two sentences, though the idea is certainly not new: "For now, don't use a metronome. Even if it takes you 10 minutes to do just one or two lines then this is success." That's a very positive, encouraging way of phrasing an idea which is vital for any beginner: practice playing correctly, don't practice making mistakes. There are also audio files to download, which is nice if you want to "check your work" as you learn to sight-read at faster and faster tempi. Highly recommended.

Very well laid out
The intro makes a lot of sense and is encouraging. No wasted words or ideas, very succinct and will be a great path for me to follow on my journey to unlocking my Fender Precision and Fender Jazz bass guitars.

Good info, clearly written
Bought this to use as a base course for students. Good info, clearly written. My only reservation was the exclusion of the examples in the Kindle version. I eventually found them at the author's site, and printed them from a pdf. These need to be included. Therefore, in accordance with the author's own advice in the book, it makes more sense to buy the hard copy, or be prepared to print all the exercises, as he (rightly and helpfully suggests) to turn the exercises upside down for gettng more bang for the buck. Other than that, good stuff here.

The Title Tells It All
This book is direct, easy to understand, and contains excellent practice exercises. I have to say that I already had a good understanding of music theory though only a basic understanding of reading sheet music. My goal is to improve my sight reading, this book has been perfect for what I need.

Buy the Book learn to Read!
This book will put you to work- it's worth the effort. Get the book not the digital. The exercises do not work digitally. I am glad I bought the book!

Meh
Examples in every key, mostly random lines that aren’t melodic per se, but get you reading, and that’s the point. Takes the unfortunate (I call it LAZY) approach with 5 and 6 string bassists- you will find nothing below E, so you don’t get to practice reading there at all. This is really a short coming these days- I cherish the books that I do have that include lines for a B string, because it is relevant to bass players today. He gives the typical line in his book (I paraphrase) that it’s okay, just read what’s there if you are on a 5 or 6 string bass- that misses the point- it would be easy for the author to have at least an extended range chapter, with several pages that hit the B string too, so we can practice reading there, right?

Reading Music
As a beginning bass player, I've tried many books on reading notation. This is one of the best. Keeps my interest and most importantly I'm actually learning.

I works, effort is not included. Customer must supply.
Got this book in order to sight read bass music and after a couple of weeks I can read the scale of c fluently and am making progress on others. However, it does take effort. It is not a quick fix but if you follow the instructions, you will build up the skills. You need to find some examples of sheet music also to practice with separately to this book as it says.
