Great family movie
Quite good, in fact, I enjoyed a lot. I didn't like the very ending, it's too predictable but great as a family movie - and funny, too!

A cheesier family movie…
The War with Grandpa is a cheesier family movie with some adult jokes here and there that make it worthy of a watch at some point. I’m not sorry I rented it, but wouldn’t have been happy purchasing it as I will not watch it again. Could it be better? Yes. Could it be worse? Yes. It’s a movie most families can relate to on multiple levels. 3 stars. What’s it about? Grandpa (De Niro) moves in with his daughter Sally’s (Thurman) family after a couple events raise concerns as he’s been living on his own since his wife’s passing. The son, Peter (Fegley), is told his room is now Grandpa’s and the attic is his due to Grandpa’s needs. Needless to say, he is not a happy camper and complains to his friends at school. His friends tell him he has rights, thus starting the beginning of the war. Grandpa finds a note declaring war but doesn’t take it sincerely at first. After a couple of incidences, Grandpa realizes Peter is serious and it’s game on. They play various pranks on each other, create a rule of engagement list, engage in peace talks, and even try a dodge ball game to end the war. Throughout the war, they both make it clear they love each other and spend some time together fishing. Eventually the war hits a boiling point at Jennifer’s birthday party. There’s a couple back stories with Grandpa’s friends (Walken, Marin) and potential love interest (Seymour), the older sister Mia(Marano), the father Arthur (Riggle), and school friends. It is left open for a sequel. As credits roll we see a little behind-the-scenes action (singing, dancing, bloopers). There’s some stereotypical old people stuff thrown in and feels a bit disjointed at times. The cast was OK, nothing to write home about.Parental guidance/trigger warnings: Peter tells friends at school he lives in North Korea at one point (is part of a joke), bullying in school (one kid likes to dump food on or in bags of other kids), older teenage sister has boy in house when no one is home (doesn’t show what they are doing, breaks the rules of not being home alone with a boy), De Niro’s butt is shown halfway once and twice it’s indicated he’s naked and flashing Arthur due to a prank of Peter’s (no nudity shown), Peter and Grandpa run away from DNR when fishing (they didn’t know there was no fishing in the lake and were breaking the law), the mom acts like she is going to punch the teenage daughters boyfriend but then gives him a helping hand up as he’s laying on the ground from when she tackled him, when Grandpa and his friends are walking one of the friends ogles multiple women who are jogging, yelling during the peace talks (according to the sister), the death of Grandpa’s wife but it is never said why or discussed in detail. Language used: hell x2.
