Beam options, battery life and durability .... The best!
I work with horses outside, in the dark all through the winter in a northern latitude. My head torch is essential and in constant use two to four hours a day. Head torches (well known brand) with limited light features, terrible battery life (both alkaline and recharge) and questionable durability have made life with my horses difficult and sometimes not that safe. Time to change. The Ledlenser H7R Core head torch was a step up in cost for me. Would the mid range price be worth it? Would the features, battery life and durability be as claimed? Would it do the job? Well it has far exceeded my expectations. This a excellent head torch and worth every penny and more. The low lumens in wide focus is ideal for working in the dark without blinding the horses - and does last 65 hours on a full charge as stated! This is amazing. I have actually had 80 hours. With narrow focus, I can do close up jobs and map read no problem. The high beam in narrow focus is brilliant. I can check my horses from the gate when they are 300 metres away. Yes, it drains the battery. But I only need it for seconds. Both the focus and lumens adjustments are by rotation, not buttons. This is great, works easily when wearing thick winter gloves and allows for fine tuning to suit job in hand. The on/off button is carefully inset and waterproof, but again easily used with gloves on. One press is low, quick following press is high and press again is off. The single solid battery is recharged by magnetic USB in a waterproof sealed unit at the back, perfectly balancing front and back. No more front heavy torches! And charging from flat only takes 45 minutes. The lock system to avoid accidental switch-on in a pocket or rucksack is a bonus and brilliant - once I worked it out. It involves pressing and holding the on/off button. The whole torch is waterproof as it says in the advert. For real! Rain every day over the last two months and dropping it in a horse water trough has field tested to extremes. I recommend this head torch with 5 stars. Do not be put off by the price. This is incredible value for quality, functionality and durability when compared with well known outdoor activity brands for £30-60. As the entry level Ledlenser torch, it inherits many of the amazing features of their professional range at £150+. I now use this torch with the helmet kit when riding my horses on a distance trail over night. Brilliant

Not the cheapest but worth it!
I've had a couple of cheap head touches (much cheaper!) and decided to pay the higher price for this one hoping that 'you get what you pay for' would be true in this case. I wasn't disappointed, its a great piece of kit. The metal case gives confidence that its built to last, the rechargeable battery life is amazing. The beam focusing lens and brightness control make it perfect for work around our small holding and country dog walks. Not exactly light weight because of the battery size, it is still very comfortable to wear for long periods of time. I'm pleased that I decided to spend the money and recommend this head torch.

Definitely worth it
I've always had rubbish basic headtorches and finally decided to spend a bit more on something good. Definitely worth it! The smoothly adjustable brightness and focus (floodlight to beam) are really useful, as is the adjustable tilt angle which lets you set it exactly as you want (unlike the cheap headtorches that just move a few clicks). Can't comment on battery life as I'll only use it for an hour at most on a normal trip out, but I'm sure it's fine. The stated max beam distance of 250m is questionable but I suspect that's in ideal laboratory conditions. When testing it myself it was very slightly misty (the night appeared clear but I could see mist in the torch beam), I could pick things up about 50m away with the beam, which is ample. On a pitch black clear night I'm sure the beam would go a lot further. More importantly, the flood light brightens a very wide area so it's great for using on a walk at night. When set to minimum brightness it's perfect for seeing things close-up (e.g. something you're holding in your hand) without dazzling yourself. No complaints at all, and with the 7 year warranty I'm pretty confident that the torch will be worth every penny.

Most illuminating
This an excellent headtorch with a good long battery life, especially as I use it set to full power. The light can be adjusted from a weak beam to a really bright one and the torch can be moved up and down to angle the beam to convert what you are working on. The only complaint I have, and the reason for only giving four stars is, the annoying charger cable magnetic connector is dreadful. As it is magnetic, it attracts metal filings and as a result becomes impossible to get a good fit to the contacts (even when it's clean, it is difficult as the cable needs to be just so to stay attached). I resorted to using a cheap toothbrush to try and remove the metal filings but that doesn't fully remove all the filings. Please, for a future product update, add a USB-C charging point and remove the magnetic one…

Excellent head torch
Great quality head torch with excellent battery life. Very comfortable to wear with extra supporting headband along the top and plenty of adjustment for fit and size. The light itself is very bright and has a brightness and focus adjustment. My only criticism is when you’re working close-up to something, the light beam is still quite focussed and doesn’t “flood” as much as I’d like it to.

Super light
The H7R is the second LED Lenser head light I’ve had, the first one gave up after many years of hard work at time used it very hostile environments. But it was super! For the last few years I’ve been using another make which was ok but not a LED Lenser , it is now no more! The new headlight is just like my first except better! Focus is easier to adjust as is the light output, and it’s very comfortable! So all in all the new H7R is very good

A great thing
I bought this to replace my trusty Lenser H5 which sadly broke after many years of faithful service of working, camping and night hunting. I went with this model as I like that the light is just on and off with one button; not several clicks to cycle through dull, bright, brighter, flashing, SOS, red, oh bu99er missed off and have to go through it again. This is really annoying when hunting as it's poor light discipline. Focus and brightness are separately adjustable with one hand which is convenient for me. The light is super bright and great range. When tightened the beam can easily identify things at well over 100m The recharge function is very convenient as it's just a USB cable that magnet clicks on to the battery pack. The charge lasts for ages at full brightness and recharging doesn't take long either. The only negatives are that the unit is a bit bulky and heavy compared to the H5. The other negative is the proprietary battery and charging cable; I worry about loosing the charging cable or the battery dying and having to purchase branded replacements. Only time will tell but for now I'm really happy with it

Gute Stirnlampe
