How To Think Like A Patriotic Millionaire: Taxes

This is a powerful and deeply informative book. It's, concise, direct and gives understandable explanations of some complex policy issues. But like a punch it hits you with the force of how our tax system deepens inequality. It also takes a wrecking ball to justifications for policies that favor the very rich, like the carried-interest policy or repealing the estate tax. This is a quick read that richly rewards the reader. It reminds me of the Chris Rock saying that if the non rich knew how rich the rich really are, there would be a rebellion. Not only for the wealthy, but for the vast majority of citizens who are not.

Refreshing, it is good to know that at least some of the very wealthy realize that it is the demand created by the middle class is their source of wealth and the greatness of this country that we ALL benefit from. And to realize that to keep our way of life and security, ALL must share in the cost or we ALL lose it.

Let me be the first to recommend this vital act of truth-telling. I have lived with a recovering member of the 1% for 10 years - the 0.01% of the 1%, as he likes to occasionally remind me. His story inspired the novel,  Billionaire Buddha  (hint: it's not about being a rich enlightened being) and the stories he tells would curdle your blood and send you screaming into the streets demanding justice. The tax code is written for the wealthy. The rest of us basically subsidize their fortunes while they dupe us into thinking poor people are the "welfare" recipients."How to Think Like a Patriotic Millionaire: Taxes" is a much-needed whistleblowing on the one percent ... and even more importantly, a how-to guide to economic justice. We need to remember our hearts, our responsibilities, and our sense of belonging. The Patriotic Millionaires have been at the forefront of pushing for justice from the ranks of the upper class for years. I'm glad Morris Pearl has taken the time to put some of their insights and experiences onto the page for the rest of us. Read it. You won't regret it.

A great read but if he really wanted people to pay attention it should be given away for free (by his own admission he doesn't need the money).
