Works with foxes
These take a little setting up. The motion detectors don’t seem to activate for a short period after they have been activated, so testing them can be frustrating and give false readings. I found the best way to set them up initially is to turn off the interconnection between them and have the sensitivity set to around 3.5. Then once you get the feel of them you can fine tune them and if desired turn on the interconnection. I have used them all summer with the strobe function on and the interconnection turned off. They are still on their first set of batteries and are waterproof. Most importantly set to fox mode they work really well. I have seen them cautiously edging round the perimeter trying not to set it off. Damage and mess fell dramatically right away and diminished to nothing within a month or two. At night you can tell if one has sneaked past by the strobing, which is useful

Well made product overall
Replacement for old ones. Have been buying these for at least 4 years now. They do deter cats from your garden. On average the cat repellents work between 2-4 years. Easy to set up and use. Rain resistant. You need at least two for a medium size garden. There not cheap (buy a pair) Make sure you use lithium-ion rechargeable batteries, they last longer & recharge.

waste of money
Wether or not items you have bought, which state that it is the ultimate for its purpose have gone by their sell by date is immaterial if they do not and have not worked since you received them, this unit which is almost guaranteed to repel cats and dogs, has in fact appeared to attract them instead, since I first installed this unit it has attracted more cats than I had prior to its installation, there should be a law that protects you against anything you have purchased that just does not work,I adamantly advise against this unit and the manufacturers.

Very Confusing Packaging
The sensors come in boxes labelled as battery operated and solar operated (in foreign languages). The documentation also refers to a slot for USB charging (marked item 8 in diagram B). There also appears to be a solar panel on top of the product. After repeated emails with Primrose customer support, it appears that the packaging and sensor is dual purpose i.e. the packaging can contain either a solar or battery powered sensor. The device itself can be fitted out either for battery or solar power. This is not clear in the documentation. As regards batteries the Primrose website recommends Duracell batteries whereas the documentation recommends Lithium, which are hard to come by. I've now installed this but had to put the sensitivity setting down to 4 rather than the recommended 5/6/7 , for cats as the sensor was continually activating. I've put Duracell 200 batteries in for now and will see how long they last compared to the claims

Does not work with Squirrels
Purchase two Smart Cat Repellers to deter squirrels from stripping our apple tree. Device description in Amazon (uk) indicates the devices work with a wide variety of pests running from cockroaches to foxes with Cats, dogs , squirrels, rats and mice in-between. The instruction manual has a table giving sensitivity and frequency setting for each type of ‘pest’. Sadly the manual uses number settings and the device employed increasing sized black dots on the thumbwheels. There is no indication whether ‘1’ refers to a small dot or a large dot. The sensitivity thumbwheel has 5 levels of dots but the manual implies there are 7 levels. The construction of the device is excellently rugged. While in use it both were left outside in heavy rain which did penetrate the case but did not affect operation. The sensitivity (PIR sensitivity/pest size) control appeared to be random whatever the setting except in the ‘off’ position which stopped any triggering. The ultrasonic transducer made audible clicking sounds when triggered confirming the device was operational. When triggered the device switched on a blue LED and optionally flashed an intense white LED. The RF link between two devices worked very well. The devices can be set to exercise a 5 sec delay before triggering following a trigger from the other device. I used the new Duracell 200% longer lasting batteries (4xAA each device =~£10) - lasted 1 week with the settings I used (1 device sensitivity = min, other max & frequency midrange) switching off the devices at night (squirrels operate in daylight/human time only). The squirrels were totally unaffected and have entirely stripped the apple tree. Contacted supplier ( Promise) via email for advise which was a waste of time as they insisted the devices were for Cats only (as per the device’s marketing description. Why have sensitivity and frequency controls if it is for only cats beats me. Returned both devices and Amazon very kindly refunded me in full - best thing about the whole experience. Now trying PIR controlled water spray to protect our Plum tree. This device is satisfying as it makes lots of racket and keeps the tree well irrigated but the little ‘rascals’ are now stripping our Victoria Plum tree before the fruit is suitably ripe. I think they quite enjoy a ‘shower’ and if they don’t they just move to a safe dry spot in the tree. I don’t think I’m going to win this war using a humane strategy!!! Despite the good build quality of the Smart Cat Repeller I would not both purchasing it for anything other than Cats (that’s all Promise will give support for) and I would be very surprised if it even works with Cats (I’m sure the water spay device will work much better!)

Battery life poor
Motion detection is a bit variable. The two devices do seem to have reduced the amount of cat poo but there are still some deposits often right beside the devices. Battery life is a major problem. I started with good quality 1.5v batteries and didn’t get more than a week before the red lights came on. I then bought rechargeable 1.2v batteries and these also only lasted about a week before triggering the red light.
