A great bargain and strongly recommended! *by C***Y on November 21, 2016* This is a very excellent product that does the job it is sold for--keeping coffee fresh down to the last bean. Every morning when we open it, the smell of fresh-roasted beans is wonderfully strong! Also, there are design features that make it especially simple to use such as the easy-to-read vacuum pressure gauge. This is a wonderful piece of engineering and production and is quite a bargain. Its stainless and black appearance matches my coffee maker and grinder perfectly as well. Finally, it has just the right volume to hold a pound of coffee.It does seem important to follow the instruction manual and to pay the extra attention needed when preparing the container for its first use, as detailed on the yellow piece of paper inserted in the manual. (This concerns rinsing the inside of the lid very well inside to remove any dust.) I would add that you should not do what I first did--lift the container by the lid before the vacuum is formed! But no harm done.The small company that designed and marketed this product is truly responsive to any questions or solving any problems. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ This is the vacuum sealed storage container you have been searching for! *by C***O on December 25, 2016* Edit 1/29/17:=====After extensive usage I have found that this container does experience odor leakage. I am having absolutely no issues with the seal, it is holding for weeks at a time. However, I have a faint aroma of the contents of my container within the room where they are stored. It is faint yet very noticeable. If I get close to the container I can smell the aroma near the top valve. In light of this new experience I am dropping my review down to 4 stars.=====I researched vacuum sealed containers for a few weeks before deciding to pick up this one. Most of the plastic containers designed for food storage have built in pumps, and after reading a lot of reviews it seems those pumps often fail. When they don't, the containers seem to have a lot of negative reviews regarding the seal, how well it works, and how long it lasts. The same can be said for vacuum sealed bags and their corresponding pump systems.The only bad reviews which stuck out about this container were for its seal, and it seems that those end-users did not properly clean their container before 1st use. Following detailed instructions from the owner of Alpha Coffee, who e-mailed me personally, I cleaned my container with water and soap before 1st use. I made sure to open the plastic one-way air tab and run water through it as well as thoroughly wash the lid and all parts of the container. I then let it fully dry for 1 day.I use this container about 3x a week and it always holds its vacuum seal. It works amazingly well and I can't express that enough! The stainless steal bottom is wide and tall enough to hold my "dry" goods without issue. I have even stacked smaller orange and white lid "plastic containers" on the inside and find that they are individually vacuum sealed just by being inside this container for each use. I have absolutely no odor leakage. The vacuum pump is separate so even if it stopped working, the container itself would still work great for normal storage. I've been using this for a few weeks and everything is working perfectly, and beyond my satisfaction. The vacuum seal is easy to open, just lift the plastic one-way air release tab and you'll hear air rushing in to replace the vacuum. Then lift the lid straight up. Applying the vacuum could not be any easier. Simply place the lid straight down and give it a firm press, then set the pump over the one-way air tab and pump up and down until the pressure tab drops to indicate that a vacuum has formed. The instructions say to pump until the little plastic indicator is level with the lid, but I usually go 2 or 3 pumps beyond that.The best part about this entire experience has been my communication with the company owner. The day I placed my Amazon order I was sent an email thanking me for my purchase. This e-mail included instructions for properly cleaning the container before 1st use. A few days later I was sent another email asking how I liked my container. I responded and received a personal reply. It has been a very long time since I have felt this type of old-school customer service. It means a lot to me that I can deal directly with the owner of the company for any questions. This level of caring doesn't come from the big manufactures who pump out similar containers and then won't offer support of any type. I greatly appreciate knowing that my purchase is backed by employees and owners who passionately care about their product and customers.If you are looking for a vacuum sealed container, this is the one you'll want to try. It is well constructed, works every time, comes with everything you'll need, built to last, backed by a solid form of customer service, reasonably priced, and manufactured in a medium size that will fit most needs. ### ⭐ Vacuum no, sucks yes *by T***T on December 8, 2016* Loses suction within overnight. The only product of its kind, I should have known better. I've tried cleaning around the rim and seal before closing it, tried blowing out the vacuum hole, tried using quick pumps, slow pumps, many many pumps of the suction adapter as well as many as the directions say. Nothing works. It will indicate it's sealed, but by morning the vacuum has been lost and air has seeped into the canister. Other canisters that say they're vacuum sealed aren't really as the air that's inside them still contains moisture and oxygen, thereby causing deterioration and oxidation of whatever product you place into them, which is why I thought this container with a vacuum pump would be the perfect ticket.
