Updated Prepworks Progressive Bread Keeper is a WINNER!
UPDATE: Yup, I still love this bread keeper. Going strong in spite of my clumsiness. I love the new updated Progressive Bread ProKeeper! I purchased several of the original version with the round ventilation "dial" and had multiple issues with it but it was the best thing out there. I have a family with a true gluten allergy. I have to bake my own bread or else pay $7 for a tiny, frozen loaf that's full of holes or has dry, flavorless, bean flavor. When my second original bread keeper was dropped, the giant hole made it an easy decision to try the new version. The updated version is leagues ahead on improvements. Pros: The ventilation is much better! The updated pull handle is a huge improvement over the tiny dial. Not only did the tiny dial not let in enough air to compensate for our humid environment, it was positively useless for gripping because it was too small to grip securely. The new handle is large enough to accommodate all four fingers of my hand with space left over. This is an advantage for better control of the box and opening and closing the two sides as they slide together to hold your loaf. The bottom has more ridges to keep my loaf elevated, which equates to better moisture control inside the box. Better moisture control = less humidity = slower to mold gluten free bread = more is eaten = less waste. The magnet that holds the hinged cutting board is a nice touch. The outside of the magnet has a slight lip which acts as a small surface to open the box from that side. It has a nice hold when closed. Not too tight, not too loose. The white, built-in cutting board is really not very usable. It's too small to hold the crumbs but this doesn't really bother me since the box would need a closing side anyway. The reason the cutting "side" is in the pros category is because it's attached and doesn't flop out, shift, fall out, or need to be kept track of when apart from the rest of the box. In my kitchen, the fewer "parts" I need to store, the better for me. The next item that was improved is the feet. They are black, more grippy, and more attached than the original version. The last thing that I love about this breadbox is that it's clear and I can easily see what's inside, how much, and whether I need to make french toast rather than sandwiches. (French toast needs slightly dryer bread to absorb the egg.) Cons: There is the likelihood that crumbs will get trapped in the bottom layers of the two box sections. Rather than shaking out the entire box together, just pull it apart and brush off the crumbs on both surfaces. This really isn't a con to me but more of a function. Definitely not a deterrent to my use. The only real con is that the ventilation holes are not very adjustable. You either get all-ventilation or no-ventilation. Without pushing the handle up into the "open" position, it hangs down and covers the holes. I would definitely recommend this bread box for anyone that makes their own bread. It has done a fantastic job of keeping my gluten free bread free of mold for longer. Yes, this is a very common situation for gluten free bread. I purchased this product on Amazon at full price, with my own money. I was not offered a discount, free item, or asked to leave this review. I waited several months before writing a review because I wanted to make sure I would be able to leave an accurate review that wasn't based on my initial impressions only. With extensive, daily use, I still love it and would recommend it to all my friends.

Best bread box
If you have a bread machine and need to store a bread, this is the unit. First of all, this review is for the older 2 piece one. I started to bake bread with my bread machine but noticed that our bread was going stale after a day. After a lot of research, this bread box seemed like a great choice. I have a Panasonic YD250. My bread is very fluffy and the top of the bread always hits the lid. (So you get an idea of how tall my bread is). With this bread box, it just squeezes in. Sometimes, the top touches of the bread touches the top of the box but it does clear it. My bread now last 5 days. Although my bread is typically consumed in 2 days. Box is very compact and doesn't take up the space. Best of all, box is crystal clear so you can see the bread and how much is left. Cleaning is very easy as there really isn't much to this unit. It's two piece of plastic, a small tray, and a vent. We wash the bread box once a week. The only con about the unit (which I am tempted to remove 1 star) is that it's a bit awkward when you take the break box apart because the the piece that slides in, which the bread actually sits on, only has one pair of legs that sits on the outside. So when you slide the box out, the crumbs fall out. That said, I really like the simple design. Besides the vent, there is nothing that that can really break on this bread box. Now that I see that there is a new design, I will order the older one to be safe.

Really like the adjustablity of size
Like many I have taken up bread baking during the pandemic. The things I like about this box: Can adjust the size - this was the main reason I bought it and I love it. The bread I make needs to be in the fridge and this only takes up the amount of space necessary. Clear container - didn't realize how much I would like the see through feature. Doesn't affect function but I really like it. Cutting board in the lid - I was skeptical about this feature as many reviewers didn't like it but I LOVE it. We don't have to get out a cutting board every time we cut a slice. Magnetic closure - Not a big deal but I like it. Things I don't like: The two parts don't ever lock together - Now that we are used to it we know how to pick it up but at first it was annoying. This is the reason it's not 5 stars

Not completely air tight, but still an nice product.
I was surprised how the pieces came together since I thought this container was airtight, however, there are small holes at the end of the container, where the handle is, so I'm thinking it's not supposed to seal completely. You can seal the holes by snapping the handle down to cover them. Sections come apart easily for cleaning, a plus, however, you have to be careful when moving the container when the bread is inside it because the two pieces might separate and the loaf could fall out. Overall, it's a neat idea.

Bread box is not for a busy kitchen with kids...
I had high hopes for the bread box but was very disappointed when It arrived. The reason, there is no stopping mechanism to keep the two pieces from pulling apart. If you are single or a couple and know you can carefully expand or open the box then maybe it would be ok. I’m a Mom with children spanning 16 years and those children have friends in our house that also call me Mom. I can already see this box being pulled apart the first time a rushing child tries to open the box and then my dogs join the party to help them clean up.... these are what you call the prophetic visions of a mother. To make matters worse, this box fully expanded to the point of being apart won’t fit a store bought loaf of bread. I’m also guessing that given it’s design precut bread won’t stay fresh long since there is no seal at any point around the expanding section of the box. I’m not going to waste a loaf of bread finding out if I’m right, my dogs don’t need the carbs. After being a Mom for a while you kinda know what’ll become a mess on the floor. The only good things I can say are it’s pretty and looks like it would hold any size loaf of home made bread. Finally, I wish the reviews on an item were for that item. The majority of the reviews are for other food storage items that might be great. However, grouping all of the reviews together is misleading when I’m busy and quickly scanning them for a highly rated item. Amazon, your “choice” was disappointing. Returning and hoping the review system is changed.

Improvement if you owned the other one!
As another reviewer stated, this bread keeper is 2 peices that slide into one another. The one peice has a cutting board that magnetically folds down (I love that feature!!). The other has vent holes (and for some odd reason a handle which is unnessary). The handle can confuse children that the bread box can be moved around and carried but it cannot, as it would come apart and your bread would fall on the ground. When you pick up the box, you must move it with two hands firmly placed on both ends of the container. The reason the bread box is so good is because it keeps your bread from drying out but also does not trap moisture inside leading to molding bread. This is my 3rd bread box of this line and I have been most pleased with this design over the other two. Like the other two, however, the plastic just cracks way too easily (even though this one is thicker). My young kids break the plastic by violently moving the box or a single drop on the floor. Kids will be kids and I expect things handled often by them to break eventually. I dont really care about the look as much as functionality, so I keep the box until the cracks are structural. But crack #1 usually happends around week 3 of owning the bread box. This is still a way better method of storing my homemade bread vs a bread bag. I use the zojurishi 2 pound bread loaf and this holds a full loaf just fine. My bread is usually tall and long, so the box just barely closes over it. I can keep a loaf in it about 6-8 days before mold comes into play where as a bag only limits me to 3-5 days when mold appears. It is top rack dishwasher safe. Make sure to give it plenty of room and not put anything next to it, as the dish washer heat and pressure of somethong against it can cause cracks also. I love this bread box and as long as you know that you have to baby it and accept cracks, you will love how it takes care of your bread.

Yea, no mold
My husband told me about this item so I read the reviews and it seemed like a really good deal. I’ve had this item for a few weeks now and it really keeps bread fresh. It didn’t come with any instructions on whether to leave the bread in the original package so I looked it up on line. Take out of plastic bag it comes in. Pay attention to what looks like a handle on the back. It’s not a handle but a way to store your bread in humid or dry conditions. So far I’m pleased.

Not Good for Desert Climates
Maybe okay during the winter in the desert. Not good at all once temperatures warm up outside. Purchased in March and worked great making moldy bread a thing of the past. Then it started warming up outside at end of March and now bread is rock hard in 2 days. I have the lever in the down position to keep the air vents closed all the time. There is still a gap where the two pieces of container slide together to extend it or make it smaller. Will have to see if it will work again starting in November or December once outdoor temperatures drop below 86F. I believe the temperature affects it because I live in a desert climate and it is extremely dry with very little humidity. The warmer it is outside the drier the air becomes inside. This is without air conditioning being turned on yet. Once that occurs the air is even drier. My kitchen is on the interior of my home with no windows so direct sunlight does not have any effect on the situation. Will have to go back to a regular rubbermaid container and keeping bread in the freezer. I wish the description was clearer on the venting. I misunderstood and thought it twisted to allow more or less venting, but it’s just a flap that you open or close on one end. In general I would not recommend this product to anyone living in a dry climate.

Nice product.
I decided to buy this container after I broke a different version of it (the one without the magnetic closure) after years of use. It fell off a shelf & cracked. I did like the older version while I had it but when I saw this version, I had to buy it. This one is better due to two features: the air vent & the magnet closure. The air vent style works better because you set it & forget it. The other version's vent moved far too easily by accident. This one can't move unless you move it deliberately. The magnet closure works great. I don't use the integrated cutting board because I want to keep the box looking nice. To those who feel the box halves “fall apart”, just position it sideways so you use two hands to move it. I've not had it come apart too easily. I also like the size of this box - great for store-bought loaves though I mainly use it for 2 lb bread machine loaves & they fit nicely.

Fresh bread
We bake our own bread. This container was expensive but worth every penny. Our bread is still fresh 4 days later if it lasts that long. It has a vent to stop condense Station which is why it stays fresh. 5 stars.
