## Overview

The Hobby Boss HMS Astute Royal Navy Boat Model Kit is a finely detailed 1/700 scale plastic model of the advanced British nuclear-powered submarine. Featuring a 5.5-inch completed length, the kit includes a two-piece hull, separate bow planes, rudder, and a full set of sail accessories like periscopes and snorkels. With a painting guide and decals for authentic markings, plus a pre-painted display stand, this kit offers a professional-grade build experience tailored for adult hobbyists seeking a modern military collectible.

## Description

From the Manufacturer Advanced (if incident prone) Royal Navy nuclear-powered submarine, pennant No S119. Kit has 2-piece full hull (split upper and lower) with engraved surface features, separate bow planes and rudder, full array of sail accessories (periscopes, comms masts and snorkel), single-piece propulsion unit, plus pre-painted display stand.

Review: this is a good one to add to the collection - Although it concerns me that the maker is a Chinese firm, I find this model to be a faithful replica of Britain's latest SSN. For all of you who collect modern subs, as I do, this is a good one to add to the collection.
Review: Hmm ... a bit disappointing - Modelers beware: This kit is NOT up to Hobby Boss's usual standards with 1/700 scale submarine kits. According to the instructions, one is supposed to poke pinholes in the top of the sail to accommodate the tiny periscopes and other gear that stick up from that part of the boat. WHY did Hobby Boss make this kit that way? Especially when other subs in this scale (the Jimmy Carter, the Russian Typhoon etc.) have pre-drilled holes for this gear? Sorry, but unless you own a hobby drill, this isn't feasible. Your only alternative is to use a red-hot needle. I decided, in the end, to build the boat WITHOUT the scopes extended. The decals aren't up to snuff, either. Most of the Hobby Boss kits I've built in this scale are just fine in that department, although you do have be aware that the decals you're working with in this scale are very small. The Astute decals, however, were flimsy in the extreme. I was able to get most of them on the boat and keep them there, but not the long, white, vertical line decal that you're supposed to apply just a bit to the rear of the rearward part of the sail. It broke, and I was forced to leave a gap on the bottom third of the boat that's not supposed to be there. If you attempt this kit, MAKE SURE you use a decal setting solution such as Testors or the Microl Sol/Micro Set duo. Finally, the upper rudder is a separate, very thin piece. This should have been molded to the hull. Mine broke off as I was applying decals, and did so as I barely put any pressure on it. I was able to glue it back in place even though the peg attachment snapped off, but still. Other than that, the kit is fine, containing just a few parts, and it's one that can be knocked out in a single afternoon, even with painting and decals.

## Features

- Completed model is approximately 5.5" long.
- Color painting reference displaying port and starboard profiles, overhead plan, bow and stern views - decals for hull markings.
- 1/700 Scale Ship

Now it's on my small submarine collection list.
