Rarely do I find expression for my deepest opinions. I lack the skill of eloquent, yet entertaining, prose. Watts finds that knife-edge between irrational certainty and empirical self-doubt that is the bloody burning brand of those who seek truth (as opposed to those who seek Truth). If you understand the difference, you will be rewarded by reading this book.

Kudos and all good mojo to Peter Watts for being angry and sentient and for having the courage and conviction and chops to write about it. We’re teetering on the edge, folks. Time to wake up.Vonnegut, our culture’s curmudgeonly truth-speaker and social critic, is gone to the great Underwood in the black. Peter Watts is still among us. May he remain so and continue to be angry and sentient and to remind us why, if we aren’t always as angry or as sentient or as erudite about the tribulations of existing on this beautiful and teetering planet as Watts is, perhaps we oughta be.

A very nice eclectic mix of essays and rants from my favorite scifi author. I always get fresh new perspectives when I read his work. Even if the world is going to become a totalitarian fireball hellhole, at least I'll have Peter's cynical voice along the way.

I was already a fan of Peter watts, this just made me more aware of how interesting some of his thoughts are. One thing I was not ready for was the submissions about his cats, it hurt and made me sad thinking about my own pets.
