Absolutely incredible book about perseverance and giving yourself grace. The ending had me sobbing.

I’ve purchased this book, and all of Kobi’s books really, multiple times as gifts for friends, family, and co-workers. They’re beautifully illustrated and have such strong and moving messages. Highly recommend.

This book has a wonderful message. My kids have this notion that if there is something that they are interested in (a sport, art, etc.) that they will be automatically be good at it. I love that the message of this book is that it takes time and perseverance to develop skills/talents.

As a teacher “perseverance” and “not giving up” are two concepts I love to have students embrace and are the key parts of my engineering and STEM lessons for children. The carry over to other aspects of their lives is significant as I strive to help children develop endurance for solving problems. So you can imagine my enthusiasm for Kobo Yamada’s newly released book: Trying. As with his other wonderful picture books, he captures everything that I want to share with my students with beautiful and insightful words. The illustrations by Elise Hurst lend themselves to heartfelt discussions and capture Kobi Yamada’s vision. This is THE book to add to your picture book collection this year to help lay the foundation for grit and tenacity.

A book that will remain on my favorite list for all time! It’s perfect for so many occasions! Graduation gifts, weddings, milestone birthdays, new career, and so much more! Beautifully written and filled with artistic wonder. Every household should own one!

Discovered one of his books by chance while walking at Target a week ago... Read over and over with my 4 years old and have ordered 4 more of his books after a week. Just magical! So grateful to have found these books, I read to my year old every night since she was born, this author's books are add on to any collection. No matter your age these will be amazing for any readers. Highly recommend his books!

I got this book for my daughter, and it’s quickly become a favourite. The message about not being afraid to fail and always trying is something I love sharing with her. The illustrations are beautiful, and the story is simple yet so meaningful. It’s a great reminder for both kids and adults that the journey is as important as the destination. My daughter finds it inspiring, and it’s sparked some lovely conversations about not giving up, no matter how hard something seems.

This is a beautifully illustrated book with detailed and evocative monochrome drawings. The story is simple, the message timeless and thought provoking, and is relevant to children as it is to adults.
