The ankles look fine and not all bunched up like some other tights I have, so you don't have to wear boots with these; pumps or flats will work. I would wear these with closed-toe shoes, for sure. These are a little bit warm. They are suitable for winter here in Georgia, anyway, so I can keep wearing knee-length dresses. You might not think the same if you lived in Michigan...Anyway, they are enough to shield me on my walk from the car into my office but not too much (I don't get hot indoors). They seem good quality. I have not gotten any runs in them and usually I destroy hose and tights after one or two wearings. No holes in the toes, either (the toes are not reinforced). The dye is even throughout. I wash them in cold water, delicate cycle, and hang to dry, and they have held up so far.
