This book is a translation from English to Spanish and ...
This book is a translation from English to Spanish and the translator uses some expressions that may not be in your dictionary. However, this collection of incidents appears to be classic teaching material for high school or first year college. My students are senior citizens and they get a kick out of these young ladies and their high jinks.

Un libro maravilloso
This is a classic. Was a great summer reading choice for a group of English learners at various levels of English development. A ethnically diverse found so many connections. The book gave the students lots to talk about.

Wonderful book that can also help build Spanish skills
We used this book for an advanced Spanish conversation adult-ed class. The short chapters/vignettes are not overly difficult for non-native speakers to understand and learn from, and are perfect as a basis for class discussion/conversation. I have enjoyed this book a lot. The narrative is in the first person from the perspective of a 12-14 year-old Hispanic girl living in a Chicago barrio. The style and language are wonderful and easy to read. The stories evoke coming-of-age in the 70s, but are timeless.

Must read for female YA
Beautifully written. I suggested it to some of my students as an independent read. They loved it! Highly recommend for young people, especially girls, as it is a coming of age story.
