OEM Systems Pro-Wire Solderless Crimp-On Banana Plugs, 16 Pack (IW-16PLUG)

I really liked not having to use a soldering iron. I have a Harbor Freight (p/n 36411) 9-1/2” crimping tool - nearly identical to the Amazon Basics crimping tool - which made extremely tight crimps with these banana plugs very easily. I have no question whatsoever about the conductivity or strength of the connection. I highly recommend these when installed with a decent crimping tool. They don’t look as cool as the anodized aluminum plugs with machined and knurled surfaces, but as a practical solution, trying to get great sound out of a high quality hi-fi system, I can’t imagine anything faster, easier, or better.

Although these banana plugs are designed to be crimped onto the ends of speaker wire, I found that soldering them to the ends worked much better. If you look at the picture I added showing the plugs and red and black covers in their separate bags, you can see that the end of the plug itself is a tube into which you insert the bare wire. I'd estimate that the tube can accommodate up to about gauge 12 wire. I used 16 gauge wire. If you tin the wire and flux the inside of this tube, soldering the wire into the tube is very simple and creates an absolutely rock solid connection between the plug and the wire. The other benefit of this approach is that you can, if you need to, remove the plugs from the wires - just heat up the end of the plug with your soldering iron and slide the wire out. The low-profile flexible covers make inserting and removing the plugs from amps and speakers very easy. Some banana plugs are much bulkier and can crowd the back of a multi-channel AV receiver. These are just right - slim, yet easy to grip. Why only 4 stars? The price seems a bit high for these. If they sold for a couple dollars less for 16, I'd give them 5 stars. Despite this one quibble, I rate them a better bang for the buck than the other plugs offered by Amazon. Nice plugs that allow crimping or soldering for a solid, professional speaker connection.

These are universal crimp-on banana plugs, they are not specific to Sylvania-whatever. Quality is great. The spoked part of the plug is stamped onto the shaft and rotates freely, so I'm not sure if these would hold up as well as other plugs after many repetitions of on-off. For a DIY speaker cable for home theater they work perfectly, just add wire and heatshrink.

Very good value here. Banana plug "springs" have good solid tension while still being readily removeable. While it may be slightly beyond the comfort zone of the average user, By Soldering these Banana Plugs on to the speaker wires, they are not only perfectly connected both electrically and mechanically, they can be easily redeployed to a new wire-set should the need arise. Extra points for installing heat shrink tubing over the solder connection and 1 1/4" up the wire insulator for added strain relief. Then slide the supplied soft insulators over this assembly and you have one very solid and professional looking connection. Reccomend a 40W soldering iron and working fairly quickly to avoid overheating the speaker wire insulation. It's a short learning curve and goes fairly quickly once you get the hang of it... Really like the minimal packaging. Mine came in a readily reuseable zip-zlock bag without any extra crap.

I bought these based off another review that stated you are able to solder wires to these plugs in lieu of crimping. I don't have a set of crimping pliers this large, but I do have a soldering iron, so I picked these up, for some DIY battery and RC projects I'm juggling. As the other reviewer stated, just fill the plug's barrel with flux, put your wire in, heat it, and add solder. I've done this for a couple of EDF motors and I easily got very solid and sturdy connections with these plugs. So if you don't have crimping pliers to use on banana plugs like this, but don't mind soldering, these are worth considering if you need banana plugs.

These are indistinguishable from early Monster Cable banana plugs, very good quality. I prefer the smooth insulating covers on these plugs to the later model ribbed insulating covers that come with current model Monster Cable crimp-on and twist-on banana plugs (they rot and self-destruct in about a year!). You will need the correct crimping tool for these. Some purchasers recommend soldering but I do not. Repeated applications of heat will un-temper the spring tension in the leaves on the plug making for a poor connection. Unless you are very experienced in soldering and know how to quickly "get on" and "get off" the work piece, I recommend just crimping these as that is how they are intended to be used. At a little over a dollar each, it's a fool's game to try & re-use something this inexpensive. Looks like remaining quantities are limited on these.

I picked up a couple packs of these when I bought new surround sound speakers & I'm very pleased with them. They're relatively beefy & provide a very secure connection between my receiver & my 14 ga speaker cabling. You need to use a quality crimping tool to get the terminals crimped securely to your speaker cables, and you should be somewhat careful since these are not beefy enough to disconnect/reconnect repeatedly. But they are the best banana plugs I've found for the $.

Pros: The quantity you get for the price is great. Easy to install No issues yet Cons: One-time use, crimp-on plugs. When connecting/disconnecting the plugs, the plug may come out of the plastic rubber sleeve if you don't hold onto the actual plug.
