The slicer can slice vegetables. I have tried to slice potatoes & onions. Both of them can be sliced with this Ganesh slicer. So, I take that it would be able to slice cucumber, carrot, turnip & other vegetables. The blade is sharp and the thickness of the slice can be adjusted. The blade may not catch rust, if used regularly. Very thin slice can be cut using this slicer. One should be careful using the slicer as you can hurt yourself due to carelessness. Do not try to slice too quickly, first take a grip on the slicer by cutting with it for few times. Always, use the teethed vegetable gripper to avoid accidental cuts. I gave a star less as the slicer I recieved has few damaged teeth in the vegetable gripper. And the alignment of the blade is not proper, so I am getting a tappered slice. One side thin and the other side thick.

It's a simple adjustable slicer. Nothing more, nothing less - and trust me, that's a good thing. In general the Ganesh brand product line seems to be of excellent quality. I've bought several items from them, such as this Ganesh Quick Plastic Dicer, Green and the Ganesh Potato Vegetable Pav Bhaji Masher . Both have served me faithfully. I bought this mandolin slicer because of the adjustability of the blade. The increments are sufficiently granular to get you cuts of any size that you desire - no matter how thin. Note that if the thickness setting is too thin, then (due to the natural motion of our hands) the slices may come out thin at one end while being thicker at the other end. This is because naturally, we apply more force when the blade makes first contact with the veggie so that the blade goes through. This effect is negligible at thicker settings. Now let's talk about the product itself: Pros: 1. The blade is made of excellent quality stainless steel. The plastic construction is also sturdy. 2. The blade is serrated (i.e., zigzag-ing pattern). This makes it easier to cut veggies like tomatoes that are pulpy in nature. 3. The thickness setting is granular enough to accommodate cuts of any thickness you desire. 4. Makes excellent potato chips, which is why I bought this item in the first place. Also, if you like sandwiches, but don't like thick ones, this is the slicer for you. Cucumber slices as thin as paper (or maybe a little thicker) are possible if you handle it correctly. 5. Makes slicing veggies (even paper thin ones) extremely streamlined and fast. 6. There is no loss of sharpness in blade or rust even after 1.5 months of almost regular use. Cons : 1. The prongs of the vegetable holder could've been a little longer to hold on to the item being cut much better. 2. The knob for the adjustment of the thickness is a little too tight for my taste. Also, the knob is tiny, and you can't change it with wet hands. Conclusion : This has made my mom's work in the kitchen much easier, and she thanks me for it. The thinness cuts of the vegetables that you get from the slicer are simply not possible with any other tool, except for may be higher end industrial machines. Again, this is the best bang for the buck that you're gonna get. Try it, it'll impress you!
