Autoethnography (Understanding Qualitative Research)

I bought this for class and although I knew a lot of the concepts of autoethnography from studying, I still enjoyed the book and found it very poignant as well as helpful.

I have not finished reading this yet, but I have read several chapters and have found it to be very helpful! I will be using authoethnography for my qualitative arts based research project/paper and reading up on this specific method of research.

Incredibly helpful volume for beginning autoethnographers. A short read that will inspire readers to dig deeper into this field of qualitative research. I originally borrowed it from my local library and, after finding the first two chapters littered with post-its, decided to order it here.

Great read, very informative and easily digestible. Helped my class edit the Autoethnography Wikipedia page! Wealth of information and great examples are given to help illustrate certain points.

Informative read!

As a UK autoethnographer, whose personal, never-ending apprenticeship in the approach has been helped no end in the past by the work of Adams, Holman Jones and Ellis, I highly recommend their wonderful new book on the subject. I found it an excellent text that pushes the boundaries of the approach and advances understandings around relational ethical engagement, evaluating autoethnography, reflexivity, voice, reader response, and much, much more, including being a great resource book for further reading and publishing. Among lots of other things, it provided big and little ephiphanies for me. A great little one: writing (often transgressively) while being employed in neoliberal higher education, and always ready to defend myself against constant pressure to engage with big money grant attraction, the idea of defending AE as the ultimate, low-cost methodology was great to read. I’ll use this next time I have to defend AE at university committee level. Buy the book folks! You won't be disappointed. Alec Grant (Short, Turner, Grant. 2013. Contemporary British Autoethnography. It is a very encouraging and easy to read book. The most genuine-academic book to tell you everything about the methodology through their own experiences. I recommend this book to the people who got bored from doing the work from the other side of social research fields. You will find joy and happy in reading this. A big gratitude to the authors.
