Great Series!
Growing up many of us loved the old Karate Kid films (especially the first two, though the 3rd one and the one with Hilary Swank had their moments). As I read through other reviews I was surprised some people gave the ratings one star strictly because it was just the episodes without any special bonus features. My response to that is "Who Cares?" The reason I get this first two season set was because I wanted the series on DVD and ultimately the episodes are what matters. For those of you who haven't had a chance to see this on You Tube Red or simply want to rewatch the first two seasons, you need this on DVD. I remember when I first hard about the reboot occurring. I was admittedly skeptical it could work. Boy was I wrong. The acting is great, the storylines compelling and I love how it crosses the line who the actual good guy is. It is fun to see many of the actors who appeared in the Karate Kid movies making appearances and the storyline is compelling. If you liked the Karate Kid movies of the 80's you will the series and if you are a younger person who hasn't seen those meetings, there are some great younger characters that will make the show appealing to you as well. Give the series a watch and I will also mention the price for the first two seasons is very fair as well.

Amazing series
I’m going to be honest, I never cared much for the karate kid series, they were just ok. BUT this show has turned me into the biggest fan! When it came on YouTube my friend immediately signed up for season 1, and I casually watched, about halfway through I was hooked and season two furthered my obsession. I’m so glad it’s finally on dvd because keeping a membership to the channel instead of just a flat fee was driving me insane. But sooooo worth it! The headband is a nice touch too! It’s a pretty nice set and I’m so happy to own it! So let me tell you, even if your kids or partner isn’t into karate kid. They will probably be obsessed with cobra Kai. It’s good it’s addictive and the plots are fairly solid. Even if hawk’s character development was overnight ( my one issue).

A great series, mediocre DVD release
This series is a continuation of the Karate Kid franchise which, to this point, consisted of the original movie, one very good sequel, and two lackluster to horrible sequels (depending on opinion in quality of course). Personally, I think this series outdoes any of the source material, even the original movie. The show picks up 34 years after the events of the first movie and is largely told from Johnny's (played by William Zabka) perspective. His life basically went to crap after the tournament, and he was one whose best days were in high school. He is now a middle-aged Luddite working as a handyman, and bordering on being an alcoholic. In a twist of fate, he ends up being a Miyagi-like character coming to the aid of a kid who is being bullied and ends up reopening the long-shuttered Cobra Kai dojo. Daniel, on the other hand (played by Ralph Macchio), is now wealthy, and an owner of several luxury car dealerships. Of course, Johnny and Daniel's path cross, mostly because of the younger actors like Mary Mouser (who plays Daniel's daughter Samantha) and Xolo Mariduena who plays Johnny's prize student, Miguel. Tanner Buchanan plays Johnny's estranged son who ends up working for and then training with Daniel, driving the wedge between him and Johnny even deeper. The show does a great job balancing the old and young characters. And, does a great job giving Johnny depth that he never had in the original movie. And, you see the events of the original movie through his eyes, and why he thinks he was the wronged party back in 1984. The show also does a great job playing the two as rivals who still kind of hate each other because of a fight over a girl, yet have a begrudging respect for each other that almost borders on something that could be a friendship. Johnny still kind of believes the old Cobra Kai no mercy mantra, but also kind of knows that it is total b.s. as well. Martin Kove also returns as Kreese to cause similar problems to those he caused in the movies. The show does a good job of balancing an original storyline as well as a lot of tie-ins to the original movies, including bringing back some of the original characters. Of course, Pat Morita passed away in 2005 so the only appearances he makes are via flashbacks and pictures. Some of the original Cobra Kai members appear in what is a very emotional episode, and the show teases an eventual appearance by Elizabeth Shue, hopefully reprising her role as Ali. For those who get the DVD set, it has the 20 episodes making up seasons 1 and 2 on 4 discs. They are stacked on top of each other in the case, which is kind of a dumb packaging choice. The episodes are about 30 minutes long, give-or-take, and it is definitely not totally PG like the movies. There is no nudity, but a lot of swearing, underage drinking, and drinking and driving that goes on. The characters are not all good or all bad, which I think really works well. The extras include a couple of gag reels, deleted scenes, a couple of live musical numbers from a band that does some of the music for the show, and a few making-of featurettes. A decent amount, but not a ton. Overall, if you were a fan of the original movie(s) at least the original and Part II, you will very likely love this series. You get a bit of nostalgia, quite a bit of humor, and much better martial arts action than was in at least the first movie. The set was only printed on a limited run, so it is very hard to find it at a reasonable price. I do not think it is worth the $130 that tends to go for now, especially since you can watch the episodes for free on YouTube (with ads) or ad-free on YouTubeTV. But, if you can snag one for the original $20 price, it is definitely worth picking up.

Finally! The best show is available on DVD
I love this show and became a big fan when it debuted on YouTube Premium. I was disappointed when the official Twitter account said there would be no DVD or home media release. I’m glad Sony and the powers-that-be finally made the decision to release it on digital, and now DVD. Of course, I would have loved Blu ray but I’m not going to complain considering how long we had to wait for any media release. The DVD picture quality is a great transfer and appears crisp and clear on screen. The box set has great extras for s1 and 2, which I haven’t fully explored yet and a comes with a cool collector’s item headband. Minor criticism: the four DVDs come stacked in one case on a spindle. The box is a little clunky since it’s designed to hold both the DVD and headband. The overall packaging is clumsy. It’s a minor complaint and doesn’t detract from enjoyment of the show. Hope they continue to release subsequent seasons on DVD.

Wow… just wow
Like fine wine, it took ages and ages to come up with the perfect follow up to the karate kid franchise. Cobra Kai is so unexpected and wonderful and all the throwback references just make it so great. There is no doubt whether you should own this fantastic series!

Karate Kid was one of my favourite franchise while I was young. I loved the story and philosophy behind that story. When I learn about "Cobra Kai" I thought, oh why not tryin g to watch the 2 free episodes of season 1 on Youtube. It's free. It was mind blowing ! The story oj Johnny Lawrence getting back to karate and trying to resurect Cobra Kai is tru;y captivating. I like how the narative isn't preachy like we too often we see from 'S rosting equally the Left and the Right and that's why it's great and never get on my nerves. Just try the free episode to see if you will ke it then get that version with both season you won't regret (or maybe because I so want to watch season 3 right now).

This Youtube premium show was a big surprise .... I was 14 in 84 - I saw Karate Kid at some point, but it wasn't as big an impact on me that it was for others. Dosen't matter much, if you are a fan of the 80s or the original series, there is something in this show for you. It has an old vibe about it in some ways - reminicent of some classic shows of yesteryear - but it's brought forward and made fresh with it's own stories and has modern freshness about it as well. It has a nice amount of fan service - the story is super woven making for some pretty crazy dynamics in the story line. You'll probably wizz through this set as it's very moreish. The less you know about the show the better before watching imo .. It's set 35yrs after KK. Thats it - watch it. The production is great and viewing was a fun time. If that sounds good to you - just jump in and enjoy. 2 Seasons, 2 Discs each. Each season is 10 X 26 min eppies. (Actually a couple of the eppies are just a bit longer.) So a nice chunk of viewing. As someone else said, no headband or slipcover like the USA initally got. Great picture imo and still cool to be able to get this as physical media. Theres a few extras on the final disc : Deleted scenes Gag reel etc Ordered mine from Zoom online and it came in 2 days in the Lockdown. 8/10 Thanks peeps!
