The versatile osprey kestrel 38 is designed to transport 30-40 pound loads anywhere you care to go. With a separate zippered sleeping bag compartment and external sleeping pad straps, it's a fully functional overnight pack. Or cinch down the straightjacket side compression straps and take it out for a day of canyoning in Utah's San Rafael swell. Whatever you put inside, osprey's light wire frame transfers the load to a comfortable spacer mesh harness and hip belt. This innovative suspension system ensures all-day carrying comfort, especially in warm conditions when the airscape mesh pack panel comes into play. When it comes time to unpack, the main compartment has top loading or side zip access providing multiple portals to get at your gear without struggle. Other storage features include top-lid and under-lid zippered pockets, side and front stretch mesh pockets, and two zippered hip belt pockets. Along with the extensive pockets, there are dual front daisy chains and web attachment points on the top lid for anchoring gear to the exterior. Other useful features include an external hydration sleeve, tuck-away ice tool loops, and osprey's stow-on-the-go trekking pole attachments. The entire pack can be shielded from the elements by deploying the integrated rain cover.

Perfect pack for 40 days
This pack was used for a 40-day European backpacking trip. I cannot say enough about this pack. It worked perfectly for my wife (female Kyte version) and I. I'm 6', 185lbs, and I used the S/M frame, which fit well. The pack has great adjustability, the perfect amount of pockets, and is comfortable. Fully loaded, the longest we had our packs on was for 10 miles through Krakรณw, Poland. We used the rain fly in a downpour, and our gear stayed dry. One pair of shoes (11) and one pair of sandals fit easily in the bottom compartment. What made our life easier was a pair of packing cubes. If you are planning a "city" backpacking trip for one week to 40 days, this truly is the perfect pack. I am now a huge Osprey fan.

Great pack, good for overnight hikes or weekend outings
Great pack, good for overnight hikes or weekend outings. I also use this for regular travel and can easily pack for 3-5 days with the help of some packing cubes. I took this as a carry-on flying Southwest with no issues, it fits perfectly in the overhead and I have the size medium/large.

Super happy with this pack
Super happy with this pack. Chances are if you are looking at this you have done a ton of research. The best thing I can probably say is that it is what it says it is. Just be sure you get the right size for your body (be sure to look at REIs video for how to measure yourself, or someone's guide at least), and be sure that 38L will be enough for you. I typically do not spend more than 3 nights out on the trails, so this has been plenty for me.

Awesome backpack!
Bought this backpack to use on a 3 day jeep ride through some salt flats in South America. It was big enough to pack all my clothing and snacks needed for the trip - and even for an extra day's set of clothes. Awesome backpack! Easy to get into from the top, side or bottom, whichever way to have access to get your items. Very comfortable to carry on your back. It fits inside the airplane cabin, so I was able to take it as a carry-on. Definitely recommend it.

Very nice product
I bought this to do part of the at trail. It worked very well, had a lot of pockets and straps to strap down my sleeping bag and sleeping pad. It was very comfy to wear and helped taking the weight off my back and putting it on my hips. I will prolly use this for vacation as well. Very nice product

Well made pack in between day pack and overnight back pack
I like the hip belts and shoulder straps. Fairly roomy but I really struggled to get my sleeping bag in the sleeping bag section, opening not big enough, but if I put it in from top the divider gets in way. Packing it tight with thick compression bags pushes out the curve in the padded back although with some effort I was able to get hydration pack in the opening. The material is tough, but this pack is a little big for narrow trails and scrambling up and down rocks. I caught it on branches and rocks a few times didn't tear but I prefer using my osprey talon 22 for climbing, this will work just as good on flatter, more open trails.

Highly recomended.
Awesome bag! I bought it for a road trip to Iceland and let me tell you, it didn t let me down. One time it got soaking wet on the outside (didnt put the cover) and everything was dry on the interior (I wouldnt push this again though) It also dried very quick. After 2 weeks of heavy use, it still look sharp. I can tell it will last for many, many trips.
