Alive and Killing (David Wolf Mystery Thriller Series)

I have come to like the David Wolfe character and am about ready to order book 4. The author makes Wolfe a realistic character who is honest and dedicated to be the best law enforcement possible. He is not intimidated by difficult people but he also does not possess super powers, which is fine with me. Wolfe finally found a love interest beyond his wife and that person is a believable FBIs agent with personal baggage of her own. I also like the way the bad guys are portrayed as well as some of the sleazy characters who always seem to show up in his 3 books. Wolfe seems to know who has a questionable agenda and will not be coerced into going to the dark side of human nature. The books are just the right price and length to make reading easy and enjoyable. I never got bogged down and fe!t the plot was moving at the right speed. Having the stories all, or mostly, take place in rural Colorado is a plus for me since I know little about the Mountain West and it's unique culture. I gave it a 5 just like book 2 The Silversmith.

This is the third book by this author I've read. Having downloaded through book six, I'd say I'll be reading him for some time.What I like about Carson is his consistency in putting out a product that makes for interesting reading from page one to page last. I call that talent good "thread" in that when I need to put a book down for whatever reason, I don't need to re-read pages to remember where I left off. With this writer seldom do I put one of his books down, but when duty calls, I can pick it back up later without any recall issues.Great character development is also consistent both with the protagonists ( in this case Wolf and his side kick FBI agent) as well as the antagonists. This helps me get into the head of the players and "walk along" side them in the story line.It follows that the plot is always well shaped. The conflict is well defined with good rising action, a climax, falling action and resolution. I don't like it when I don't see the "end" of the tale and Carson does not disappoint.The theme, naturally, is thriller, which is what we expect and it exists right to the bitter end.I don't re-tell story lines in my reviews, but suffice it to say, Jeff Carson does a nice job, such, that as I said before, will keep me following along with Sheriff David Wolf for some time.

Another good read.Sheriff Wolf and his son are camping in the high country when a guy appears. This guy has a backpack that is so loaded its pulling him over. The backpack in clanking like its filled with metal.Wolf is immediately suspicious of this guy and tells his son to get behind him.The guys uses a scarf to cover his face. He also has wounds that look like burns on the side of his face. He's not really interested in talking to Wolf. Wolf doesn't lower his guard at all. The guy exchanges a few words with wolf and then continues on his way.Wolf is still suspicious as hell but really has no reason to pursue that suspision. The guys an odd duck to say the least.He and his son finish setting up camp. They get a campfire going and get ready to prepare food and eat dinner.Shortly after that they hear gunshots from the direction the guy took. Wolf, an ex Army Ranger, knows a long gun when he hears one. He's beginning to get the feeling something is way, way wrong. Just what it could be he has no idea.An armed man then appears at their campfire. This guy uses his gun to control Wolf and his son. He has a radio and is communicating with others. Those others want him to kill Wolf and his son.Wolf suspects this man and those others are the source of the gunshots he heard. Wolf is worried about his sons safety.Wolf picks his time and gets the drop on the guy and between he and his son they kill him.So begins one damned fine read.This one has thieves, gold leading to Iraq, a dirty cop, murder, attempted murder, friends, colleagues the FBI and Wolf trying to figure it all out.One super read. Five Stars and then some.

I got the Kindle version of this book free from Amazon, and I enjoyed it so much I am buying the rest of the titles in the series. So many books in this genre are written by lazy authors who have a plot idea that is maybe worth 10 pages, so they pad it out to book-length with oceans of irrelevant and annoying detail that contributes nothing to character or plot development.Mr Carson is different: his characters are vivid and realistic, and nearly all of the words and sentences move the plot forward (only the very best authors achieve that for ALL of their words and sentences).This book starts with a bang, and the pace is relentless all the way through. I really enjoyed it.

You almost need a scorecard to keep up with all the characters. Jeff, next time you name a woman who goes by her last name a man’s name, I’m going to kick your butt. Other than that it was a good story and it had a lot of action.

A great story line filled with mystery, excitement and a bit of romance. Looking forward to Book4 in this series.

Yet another good story badly let down by sloppy editing.With decent editing this book would be 4.5 stars but it is spoiled by some very awkward sentence constructions ( some VERY long sentences with multiple 'ands', closely followed by more of the same), some basic punctuation/grammar errors and a few spelling issues, one of which did however cause me some amusement. The hero is shot in the arm and to stop the bleeding a tunicate (which is a type of sea squirt) is applied, obviously works better than a tourniquet!Having said all that I would probably risk another book by the same author, which says a lot for the quality of the story generally. However if the editing was not significantly better he would be unlikely to get another chance.

The adventurers in this book continue on with every single page. The characters continue thru out and make an easy read without a second thought. I appreciate this for some time I stop for severaldays and continue with out second thought. So the series with a similar storyline make it injoyable

This book was a non stop entangled plot that kept you thinking you knew what was going to happen . Then you realize there is another twist that leads you down a different path. In the end the author brings it all together in an ending that suggest a whole lot of new beginnings. Thank you for the great read.

A well written well paced thriller. Plain and simple.

I had no idea until the author's note at the end that this is a self published book. The quality of the writing and content of the book rivals many out there than have gone through the more commercial publishing process.On to the book...... I completely agree with what a previous reviewer wrote about how well the author sets the scene. No detail is left out and even though I have never been to the area he is writing about, I felt I could place myself in all the situations because they had been described so well. I also really appreciated the consistency of the descriptions. Even when he is writing high impact, fast paced scenes, the link in the scenery ensures fantastic continuity.The content of this book is great! I don't want to give the plot away, as you should read and enjoy it yourself! The chemistry between the characters (not just the male/female lead) and the depth of plot made this the novel that kept on giving. Never are you allowed to meander through chapters, everything written is pertinent to the story. A really good read and I'm definitely going to read the rest of the series.Finally, even though (as I found out when looking up the book), it's the 3rd book in a series, the novel felt completely stand alone and thoroughly enjoyable in that context.

Keep writing! These stories are can’t put it down reading. Excellent. I really enjoyed them all. Thank you! Very well done.
