Makeup saver for this big baby
I moved from the city to a more rural area about 4.5 years ago and developed major allergy issues. My nose was runny and eyes watery non-stop and allergy medicine alone wasn't cutting it. Because I wore makeup on a daily basis for work, I was wiping it off my nose with the constant nose-blowing with tissues. I know it's extra AF but I needed something that would save my makeup. I tried those manual silicone bulbs and they were useless! So, I saw this at Walmart and figured what the heck. At first try, I was very disappointed at the lack of suction so I just tossed it in a drawer and forgot about it. Fast forward to last year, I changed my city job to a job closer to home and had to drive through farms to get to the new job and my allergies got worse. I dusted off this nasal aspirator and looked online to see if there were any fixes for the suction. Lo and behold, I saw a YouTube video on how to take the protective film off from under the filter (the same suggestions you'll find in most of the pictures posted in the reviews here). Once I took that off, the suction was vastly improved! I took that thing everywhere! My friends and family would make fun of me because it was like my security blanket. Then a month ago, it conked out on me and so I was on the hunt for a new one. I work from home during these COVID-19 days so I don't wear makeup but it does save me from rubbing my nose raw with tissue so I needed a replacement stat! While I loved the relief this nasal aspirator would bring to my nose and makeup, I didn't care for the design. You have to make sure to rinse it out well and then make sure all the parts are completely dry. I was a bit lazy about cleaning it out until it got to the maximum line (gross, I know, but it was my snot and it was always clear lol) so unbeknownst to me, when I'd stuff it in my bag the chamber contents leaked and got into the battery cavity. Likely the reason why it stopped working. WalMart never had it in stock when I checked. So I came searching for a new style here. I tried 3 other nasal aspirators from Amazon. They were highly rated here with a more compact design. 2 of them were the types with collection chambers on top of the unit. The 3rd one was similar to this one but while this one is upright, that one was a horizontal design. The problem with all of these were that 1) the suction for all 3 was not nearly as good as this one and 2) the snot would leak into the main units of the first 2 because the seals were inadequate. The snot would just leak into the main housing unit that held the electrical components. I could see this becoming a major problem similar to what made my first one conk out. So I returned them all and re-bought this one. Received it, took out the protective covering from the filter and OMG the suction is even better than my first one! I wish I just bought this one again from the get-go. This is, by far, the best electric nasal aspirator in the market. This new one seems louder than my first but it makes up for it in a more powerful suction. This may be an issue for babies but the music can help drown that out and the suction is effective enough to make it a quick session. I strongly suggest you clean and let dry completely after each use to prolong the life of this unit.

I only wish I bought it years ago!
I recently purchased this nasal aspirator for my young child. I've been using various "bulb" aspirators which have not worked well. The suction from the bulbs has been weak, the bulb itself is stiff and difficult to compress, and the tip is too firm and uncomfortable in my child's nose. The Graco Nasal Clear Nasal Aspirator is perfect. First the suction strength is just right. It is strong enough to clear nasal fluid, but gentle enough not to hurt the sensitive nasal tissue. Some have claimed that the aspirator suction is weak. That's not the case. You don't want too strong of suction applied to a delicate part of your child's body. Next, it comes with 2 removable tips. One larger and one smaller for clearing different nasal fluid. Both tips are soft so that you can comfortably insert the aspirator in your child's nose. They are much softer and higher quality than any of the bulb aspirators I've owned. The aspirator can be easily disassembled for cleaning. You just pop off the front of the unit. You can remove the tip for cleaning too. And the nasal fluid catcher unscrews easily. Just rinse off and reassemble. Takes a few seconds. Really, hassle-free. Finally, how could they make a great product even better? Make it play children's melodies! Even though the aspirator's motor is not loud, at first my child was a bit frightened of it. I decided to give the music a try. To activate there is a conveniently located button on the back of the handle which activates the music for about 10 seconds. With each press a different tune is played. I noticed that another reviewer thought the melody was too loud, but it seems just right to me. The little melody soothed my child, and I was able to use it (for a while) without fuss. It's the perfect aspirator.

How do U live without it!?!?!
Okay so prefacing that I LOVE this just isn't enough. We go NO WHERE without it! My husband, mom, dad, and auntie also love it! My mom and dad, who are in their 60's tell me ALL the time 'where was this when u kids were little?' That little bulb thing they give u at the hospital is so not practical or really efficient and when I was a first time mom the bulb scared me because I was always so afraid I would put air up instead of sucking things out! With my first son we had a lot of nasal and respiratory issues and with the weather climate in our area colds etc are common and add daycare on top of that, colds were a full time job for us the first two years. That being said I own 3 (diaper bag, house, grandparents) of these because they work so well and my son was never bothered by its use. In fact he would want to do it himself as he got older. When they are little little you just place the tip under and outside he nose to collect the drippings, but as they get older, or at least my son did, put it up the nose move it in a circular motion and magically all the boogies come out! If u have kids that need to 'see' what all the fuss/work is about, like my son who is so inquisitive, the clear collection cup is nice for that so they can see hey we had to get this out. Also it's nice because all the pieces come apart and you can clean and sanitize it fully. The extra tips they sale now (also on amazon) are nice too. We've used almost the whole array, but the basic tip is the main one we use. The only thing I would say that I find a bonus but others may not is that it does have little pieces that come apart and off for proper cleaning. I like that feature but others may not.

Really needed!
This may be a bit pricey for a snot-sucker, but this was--dare I say--life-saving! My son came down with RSV at two months old. It wasn't too bad to the point he was hospitalized, but the doctors said there was nothing they could do until he couldn't breathe. He was horribly congested, I felt so bad!! The blue bulb the hospital gave me when he was born wasn't working. So I bought this on a whim, and used it right away when it arrived. He doesn't cry when I use it on him, and it cleared up a LOT of junk in his nose. I won't say the RSV went away because of this, but he could breathe a lot better because of it. Can't compare it to the Swedish snot-sucking thing, I haven't used that one yet. But I LOVE this!! One thing--it's been about a week since I used it, and when I used it yesterday, it stopped. Almost like it got stuck on something. I kept pressing the button for a minute until it seemed to get "unstuck" and start working again. Someone else in the house may have used it and not cleaned it, that's my guess. make sure you clean it. UPDATE: I don't know if I'm cleaning this as well as I should have been. It's been about 6 months now, and the thing seems like it has stopped for good. It got stuck in the past, and i got it unstuck, except for this time. And right before it stopped working, it makes this awful burning smell when used. I clean it almost every time I use it, but maybe it's not good enough. It still gets krud stuck inside the machine that I have a hard time getting to. I bought another one, because it really works better than the bulb, and since I'm by myself a lot, I just can't use the nose frida contraption, it requires at least two hands. I read a suggestion to try and clean this by sucking in warm water, I'll try that on this new one to see if that's what I'm doing wrong. I still like this, but the cleaning part of it is very frustrating...

good and quick suction, not as convenient as I hoped (9/20/15 - broken) (10/1/15 replaced!)
Update: 9/20/15 this thing just stopped working. One day it sputtered but after a few more presses of the button it worked right. By the end of the week, no response when you hit the button. I changed the batteries and all, the music works, the motor makes no noise what so ever. I emailed the company and still no response. It didn't last long did it? The kicker is that I didn't even use it everyday. It was when my son got a cold or runny nose. I changed 3 stars to 1 until I see what the company has to say. Original review: I have my reservations about all the nasal aspirators out there, but this one faired better than I expected. I am in the healthcare field and I can use the blue bulb syringes pretty effectively. However, when the baby is sick (and since daycare, he has been sick believe you me!) sometimes he just gets the never ending thick goo of mucus that only a strong suction can remove. I have tried the babycomfy (looks like an egg) and the ever popular baby Nosefrida and believe it or not, I and my wife have gotten sick from it a couple times each! Well, just look at the "filter" element...so I decided to try this. Let's get down to the nitty gritty: Please note: look at the pic, the suction part does separate as a whole "pre-unit". It then can be futher broken down into the silicone nozzle, the housing, the waste reservoir and then the o-ring seals if needed. You'll understand why I explained this when you get to the cons Pros: - plays 4 or 5 tunes - soft yet firm enough silicone tip to create a decent seal without hurting - removable parts for cleaning (but this will also be a con) - 2 AA batteries, no special button cell or whatever - love this: good and quick suction right from the press of the button! I was really worried about this aspect, I thought it maybe weak and needs time to build and by that time you know the baby's going to be unwieldy cranky but no! I'm surprised about this...this is a good pro cons: - limited waste space. By the time you get some boogie in there then try to flush it for a next pass...even a quick sip of water will already fill the waste container...which leads to... - removable to clean, nice, but you will be doing it often if you plan on more than one pass with a super quick flush to clear the suction way for a good second pass. I suppose you can just keep going for it but depending on the thickness of the boogie, it can clog or really diminish the next go. - the idea is novel, but when you hold the baby it angles the container. the waste (esp with water flushes) easily angles back into base of the 1st part of the aspirator. Again, fine if you just try to go at all attempts without a flush of water in between but as I have a habit of the flush from decades in healthcare, the small reservoir annoys me a little - cannot reposition or swivel to side if need be so if you can't suction baby close to vertical position, then you may not want to flush/clear in between...too meddlesome - kind of loud, can startle the baby...unless he/she is a really good sleeper, he/she will probably wake up if you try this during a nap Overall, would I get this again...yes BUT ONLY if I didn't recently invent droplet filters for the babycomfy and nosefridas. With the babycomfy and nosefrida at least I can control the amount of force, duration and minimal noise (no motor rumbling by his face) - and now with my filter inserts I can protect myself from germy microdroplets/aerosols. Hopefully you may have better luck with this. Update: 10/10/15 So the manufacturer read my email, I must've pulled all the right serial numbers and viola! Next thing I knew, there was a tough gray shipping bag on my doorstep that had me wondering what in the world did my wife order. She didn't....Graco sent me a brand new replacement! I am happy to say *knock on wood* I'm back to cleaning his snot out in half the time and more efficiently than the bulbs. If this lasts the year, then I'll update the stars but for now, it's bumped to a 3. Thank you Graco customer service if you're reading this. It is very appreciated and just in time for cold season!

Baby likes it! Asks for more...
My daughter is 12 months old, and she's had her fair share of colds this past winter... her nose was perpetually runny! I tried the blue bulb and the NoseFrida hose, and the results were always the same. She'd squirm, turn her head, and use one or both arms to bat the offensive things away from her nose. So, it was always a struggle and the results were marginal. I bought this electronic nasal aspirator on a whim, and I pulled it out of the box yesterday. I turned on the musical tunes and she was immediately curious. I then leaned forward and started suctioning, and she loved it. The difference is that the baby sits upright (in a less vulnerable position) and the aspirator is positioned just below the nostril- not tilted and jammed up inside. (It's in the directions.) When I was done, she leaned her face forward in a gesture that meant "do it again, mom." OMG!!! I just had to laugh, because she's never volunteered to have her nose suctioned before! So, major points for the glorified music box. In terms of effectiveness, I couldn't really tell that it was working until after I pulled it apart to clean it. Whoa- that was some thick stuff, and a pretty generous amount (but it never made it to the collection jar.) So, points there, too. The last thing is the smell, which I had heard about on other Amazon reviews. The little motor does make an odor, but so do a handful of my kitchen appliances. It's ozone. It's not dangerous or scary, at least to anyone who's ever used a Cuisinart mini-chopper. So, I'm sold. I've only used it once, but my daughter clearly enjoyed the experience. (We'll see if she feels the same way next time she's sick and cranky.)

A little something to clear up your doubts...
I'd say it's definitely a must-have... and why wouldn't it? you don't have to be squeezing every 2 seconds to activate the suction; instead, you just press a little button and you get proper and continuous suction from this device. Keep in mind that, if your child's nose is not "runny", the nasal aspirator might not get that much out. You need to loosen up hardened mucous first. How?? Use a bit of saline and spray it in each nostril. This will surely help. After mucous is loose, you can more easily get them out using the aspirator. I've read some other reviews and there's a little tip I could offer: - For those parents whose children are very very congested, be prepared to get the following: sterilized sea water (you can get it at your local pharmacy), saline solution, a syringe holding up to 10cc and the nasal aspirator. Use the sea water to "open up" your child's nasal passageways by pouring a few drops inside each nostril (if you can get a nasal-spray bottle, all the better). Give it a few minutes to loosen up the mucous. THIS NEXT PART IS REALLY UNPLEASANT FOR PARENTS BUT I GUARANTEE IT WORKS EVERY TIME: fill the syringe with at least 5cc of saline solution and, holding the nasal aspirator ready to extract the mucous from within one nostril, "flush" your child's nasal passageways with the saline through the other nostril (for better results, tilt your child's head leaving the "open" nostril higher). The flushing must be done in a gentle manner but without taking too long - you should empty the syringe within 2 seconds at the most and generate suction with the aspirator through the other nostril in order to ensure proper washing of the nasal passageways. The procedure I just described above should be done through each nostril...with at least 5cc saline every time... this to ensure proper extraction of all mucous inside the little fella's nose and allowing for air to flow without problems. Doctor's say you can do this as many times a day as it is necessary but be careful. Just think of shoving a spoonful of salt water in your nose every so many hours...not pleasant, right?? leaving like a burning sensation, right?? well, that's exactly what your child will feel if you do this too often... As a final piece of advice, try to get any nasal spray that contains Mometasone Furoate (e.g. Nasonex) for this will help the swelling go down and ease the sensation of your nose having been flushed. Use it twice a day for a 7-day period in order to obtain proper results. Hope you find this helpful...I know it has helped me and my 5-month-old very very much!! Cheers!

Works really well but requires some experience
I've owned three of these aspirators (first one I gave away, second one pooped out after over 20 years of use, and I just received my third) and it has been extremely useful, especially since all three of my infants had a lot of congestion during their first few weeks of life. As a caveat I have never used the nasal suction straw things because I think it's sort of gross and you need two people to pull it off. So I guess I'm comparing this to the traditional rubber aspirator which is minimally effective at best. I feel so bad for the people who have found this item unhelpful and frustrating so I feel compelled to offer a couple of tips: 1) Sometimes this aspirator is sold with only the thick tip (for some reason I remember it being sold with the thin one before). The thin tip is A LOT more useful for tiny nasal passageways. These tips can be found separately for about $5 for 4 (2 of each type of tip). I'm not sure if this model is going out of production but I was able to find tips at babiesrus. 2) Use saline drops or a tiny bit of breastmilk to loosen the mucus. 3) Most importantly point the tip straight into the baby's face (think 90 degree angle) --- the nasal cavity actually goes more back than upwards. If you point this tip up the nose, it ends up just sucking on skin inside the nose (which is uncomfortable) and not the mucus. If you point it towards the back of the baby's head you get more stuff out. 4) sometimes it doesn't look like you get much out but if you suck up some running water after use, you can see if it was effective or not (though it can look pretty nasty so brace yourself). 5) be careful not to lose any of the washers because they are essential (these are the rubbery rings). You can purchase replacements from the graco website but it's annoying to pay for shipping (I actually got a couple at once since I knew I would be having more kids and using the aspirator for a while). Hope this helps!

Ottimo aspiratore
