Believe it or not, they get it off the local FM radio station, but with a special decoder. Now you can build your own decoder and tap into the wealth of programming available to those in-the-know. Programming available runs the gamut from stock quotes, to rock music, to easy listening, to all news. These services are hidden in subcarriers riding along with the standard FM radio station's usual programming. The decoder connects to the detector output on an FM receiver; if your receiver does not have such an output, consider our FR1C FM Broadcast Band Receiver! Tune into what you've been missing, try the SCA1. Includes a custom case set to match the FR1C receiver. Case measures 5 W x 1 1/2 H x 5 1/4 D.

A Great Kit Just To Check If A Station Has RDS
I made a review which was "electronicdx" back in 2005. Now things have changed over time, many sub carriers are off the air except for one in my local area, but hardly listen to it. I now use this kit and will buy another soon for monitoring for RDS57 kHz signals just to make sure they are on the air and my equipment is not broken. So if you have a receiver with RDS, butthere is no signal on your receiver then get this kit to just to make your receiver is receiving the RDS 57 kHz signal. Many SCA channels went to satellite and the internet and other distribution technologies you might never know exist. It's a great kit for home based listeners and DXer's in major cities and I once tested from a TV receiver and I received SAP audio once along time ago. Now I am waiting for Ramsey to come out with a SCA Encoder kit to connect to the MPX IN of a FM stereo transmitter so I can learn on how a SCA signal is sent and use this kit to learn on how it's decoded. Now that would be a great high school or college experiment!

Great Kit for FM DXer's and Home Listeners
I have built this kit before, and the instructions are easy to follow, and it takes a 25 watt pencil soldering iron. The goodthing about this kit, that is makes you self aware that there are other radio stations riding along the local ones that provide services to businesses and other commercial establishments. Please be aware that this kit is for home use only, or else you may end up paying the required fees for the services. You can hear various services, ie Muzak, Radio Pinoy in New York, and also Readers Services via NPR broadcasters. Its a great experimenters item, buy one and learn more about the advantages of FM broadcasting!
