Review: A very satisfied purchase - I purchased the 870 QVO 1TB. What a world of difference compared to the HDD I had in my laptop. The time that it takes for my laptop to startup and be able to use, is so far less than the what it took to get the HDD fully going and be able use the laptop. To me, this is money will spent. There are more pluses as well. Opening my excel documents is also lighting fast compared to the HDD drive. I love that it's unbelievably fast. Have I mentioned that?? What seemed to be an eternity is now only seconds. For Outlook, I open it, and boom it connects right away, there is no "Trying to connect, and then it connects. It's instantaneous. The one reason I got the Samsung SSD is the migration option. It was super easy to do, and didn't take that much time, granted I don't have much on the drive. Total time to transfer took about a half hour. The more you have stored on the drive, the longer it's going to take. Make sure all programs are closed before you do the migration. I did have trouble with the drive not popping up on the laptop when I connected it. I did find it and it was connected, but I couldn't get it opened to find the migration software. That was kind of bothersome, but it was not a stopper. I simply googled "Samsung Migration Software," went straight to Samsung's section of downloadable software, downloaded the software opened it, and followed the directions. The software knew my HDD was the only and main drive and the "Target Drive" was the Samsung Drive. I clicked okay. This is what happens, the information is not being copied from one drive to another, it's migrating/moving over to the Samsung Drive. Don't be afraid of clicking yes. Do it. Once the migration is complete you will remove the old drive and put the SSD in its place. Of course your laptop/PC is off while doing this. Turn on your laptop/PC and F9 while it's starting, click or arrow to the drive that needs to be the main one for start up, and let the start up process. I had no problem with this at all. In my case, the SSD now has windows, and is the startup drive / and the only drive. The reason why I used F9 at start up, I wanted to make sure the SSD was set as the main drive, since it needed to be. I was at the sign in screen in no time. Super Awesome!! You will also want to download the "Samsung Magician Software." In other reviews on desertcart, people have said it's worth it, it works, and I believe them. It really does optimize your drive and makes it streamline. How, I don't know but it works. I can say you will not be disappointed getting a Samsung Drive and taking advantage of the software that is available to make the migration happen. **Q: Will this work on Macbook Pro 2012 non-retina A1278?**
A: Absolutely it will! I have the 2TB QVO 870 in my Macbook Pro 2012. Works flawlessly. 
If you use the Disk Utility to clone from an upgrade (from Recovery mode) don't forget to go to Startup Disk in System Preferences to select the new disk afterwards.

**Q: Does it come with a sata cabel?**
A: It does not, I had to order extra data cables along with it.

**Q: Does it have power loss protection?**
A: Ignore the answer about journaling, it's only meta-data journaling, not full-data journaling.
Yes, you can still have data not committed on a power loss.

Meta-data journaling, which NTFS, Ext[34]/XFS and other file systems do, only mitigates the change the file system is inconsistent on a journal replay after power loss.  Meta-data, such as date, allocations (FAT in NTFS, iNode in Ext/XFS), ownership and permissions are what's stored in the FAT and directory attributes in the case of NTFS, and the inodes and areas like the superblock in the case of Ext/XFS.  Inconsistency is what causes future data loss, so meta-journaling and any replay after a power-on is so the file system remains consistent aka 'well ordered.'  But data blocks may still be lost as a result of a non-commit, which is not made to the journal, only meta-data goes into the journal.

Consumer NAND devices use DRAM for buffering and, at best, have capacitors and maybe 1-bit SLC or 2-bit MLC for buffering some writes, before it is written to 3-bit TLC or, in this case, 4-bit QLC.  But they are not really designed for data loss prevention.

The NT kernel in Windows also isn't designed for NVRAM on the system board, and 'raw' management of the NAND cells themselves.  That's why consumer NAND devices continue to ship DRAM.  At one time Microsoft had a more embedded/mobile OS called CE that did do some of these things, but it is long gone now.

The Linux kernel is the opposite, and can actually manage raw NAND cells and support NVRAM directly on the system board, so it could have a means to ensure all data is written post-recovery.  There are also new 'zoned' devices from storage vendors that are really high density, low cost,  including specific file systems, like Western Digital's ZDS.  But these are only supported by designs like the Linux kernel, and not on Windows.

And because Windows dominates PC sales, the consumer devices available at economies-of-scale (lower cost), have to be Windows compatible, even if the Linux-only hardware is cheaper to make.  So, just like GPUs, specialized storage devices that can take advantage of Linux features are all data center-specific, where Linux is the massive OS of choice, so the vendors make the most money there.  It's not worth them to sell to consumers.

**Q: Mine seems slower to boot and normal operations. Windows 10 latest update. Also using magician, why?**
A: Download the latest version of Samsung magician and add a 5 or 10% OP Operational Cache and then turn on Rapid Mode an it'll perform faster by a lot.

The OP cache allows it to cache its data through its controller to use and also protects the drive from using up all its space. If you example have a 1TB an you use the full 938GB it'll be a lot slower, you'll need an want 5-10% For a cache.

Picked this up when it was still 100 bucks, thankfully. Its very fast and easy to install, its best to install the samaung magicians software as soon as possible. That way you can set up and verify authenticity of your drive (in the off chance you get a fake one). Overall a very good drive but id wait for prices to settle back down.
