Frommer's Ireland (Complete Guide)

Giving this as a gift for someone who is planning on traveling to Ireland. Pretty good book! I flipped thru it and has lots of information

I bought this guide as a back-up to online research right before we left for Ireland. Turns out, online research was clunky, confusing, and (often) actually just disguised marketing. I hate feeling sold to when I really just want insight. This guide was well-researched, easy to follow, and clearly written by a local, one who has great insight into the Ireland of today (and its history - which is fun for a travel nerd like me). What I am learning in the book is enhancing what I to expect on the ground--I feel like I am listening to a guide by a good Irish friend. The maps were helpful - but especially appreciate the restaurants and pubs recommended and picked out by the author. There are lots to choose from and I appreciate the insight advice and input for authentic pub atmosphere and good food.

Just got back from Ireland and Frommer's made my trip one for the memory books. I got three guidebooks before I left for Ireland, but I ended up turning to this one over other two because its advice was just more actionable. The star rating system (1,2 and 3) quickly showed me what would be most worth my time, and then the descriptions of the museums, castles, nature sights, etc. wove in the history of those places, really bringing them to life. I also appreciated all of the solid advice on how to make the most of your time at these kinds of attractions, and in Ireland in general—the suggested itineraries chapter is gold! Loved all the great photos in this one, too.Biggest reason to get this book: it’s clearly written by a local. I found when I followed Rick Steves or Fodors, I was dining with all the other tourists, and the food was pretty mediocre. Frommer’s led me to a lot of real gems, in terms of restaurants and shops, and I was always the only non-Irishperson there!

My daughter and I are planning a 3 week trip next year. This has been helpful along with talking to our friends from Ireland.
