Does the smell go away after some time?

It will dissipates over time, but can place it outdoors in the sun for several days. I have not had an issue with it, as I value my 6 Horner harmonicas and they air out properly. Those flourescent key labels work well with this case also when you are using your harmonicas in the evening outdoors.

Lots said they'd like the cover to stay open. Me too. Can cover be folded back to touch the backside then a large rubber band affixed to keep it open?

A large rubber works well. I do it myself. One of the two Velcro straps can also be looped over a corner to keep the case open also. Great case for those wonderful Horner harmonicas!

Does the aroma from the foam insert dissipate?

I haven't noticed an aroma. If I did at the beginning, it was not strong. There's no aroma now, and I'm generally sensitive to such things.

Are the tools included as shown in the tool bag photo, or just the bag?

I didn’t get the tools. The ad I believe mention bag OF tools. No worth returning but disappointed.
